You have to admit that this is a delicious development. I mean, it throws so many clanging monkey wrenches into the mix. Should be entertaining, at the very least.

Really? How so? You seem like the kind of guy who let his own house burn, in the belief that it will spread to the house of "that neighbour I hate" and let's face it, "the flames look so pretty in the night."

Looks like the crazy old uncle who keeps turning up to Christmas Dinner every year is running for president... again!

You know what would RESULT own the Libs? For some Big Republican Donor to spend a billion to fight child poverty and climate change.
That would be a kick in the nuts.

Seems to be an undue amount of handwringing in this thread over Trump’s announcement.

Trumpism was soundly rejected at the ballot box this election cycle and Trump continues to be a reviled figure. There’s no realistic scenario that puts him back in office. The only result of him running again will be the further immolation of the Republican Party, which will be delightful to watch.

Get your popcorn out, folks. This is going to be fun.

I'm not worried about Trump winning, I'm worried about him blowing his load now instead of close to the election to play havock with the Republican nomination.

I think it is justified...The American polity has a tendency to surprise....often not in a good way.

He's running again.

CNN
Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday filed his paperwork establishing his candidacy to run for the presidency again in 2024.
Well, that's a thing that happened.

I assume Moscow Mitch and other republicans are in panic mode right now.

For me, I am most interested in 2 issues:

- Will the republican party follow through on their plan to cut funding for Trump's legal team? They claimed they would if he decided to run again (since they "can't play favorites"), but I would not be surprised if they kept paying for his lawyers as a way to keep him happy (with some excuse like "its not primary season yet", or "we will pay for lawyers for current cases but not future cases")

- How will this impact any potential upcoming indictments? The DoJ does have a policy of not interfering in elections. They could simply back off and not charge him, they could appoint a special council, or they could just go ahead and charge him like normal. (I hope they do charge him... he has broken too many crimes to just let things go, and appointing a special council to handle things will just add unnecessary delay)

I think Trump's candidacy will be harmful to the republicans, and he has a very low chance of winning the presidency.

But, its like russian roulette... you can't completely dismiss the risks, because if Trump happens to win, it will be incredibly bad for the U.S. (and the world as a whole).

Continued economic problems, a few more republican states passing voter suppression laws, some scandal involving biden (or alternatively a democratic primary that sees an unpopular leader win) all happening at the same time might allow Stubby McBonespurs to win again.

He has none of the advantages he had in 2016 and the American electorate just rejected his brand of politics for the third time in a row.

I’m not seeing it.

Not gonna happen. I don’t ever make political predictions but I feel very confident about this one. Feel free to bookmark this post for future reference.

I seriously doubt that announcing your candidacy for president is some kind of loophole to avoid criminal indictment. Trump remains a private citizen and the investigations he is under will continue unabated.

Do we have a new favorite child?

From: Business Insider
Donald Trump officially launched his 2024 presidential campaign on Tuesday at his Mar-a-Lago resort.... Eric Trump, his wife Lara Trump, Jared Kushner, and Barron Trump, Donald Trump's youngest son, were seen entering the ballroom together...Notably, Donald Trump Jr., Ivanka Trump, and Tiffany Trump were not immediately spotted... During his announcement, Trump took a moment to only highlight Eric Trump and his wife.... Sources also told The New York Post that Donald Trump pleaded to Ivanka Trump and his son-in-law to join him for his campaign announcement

Ivanka has said that she plans to "stay out of the political spotlight" in order to prioritize spending time with her family (and not, as we actually know, because she is tired of being treated as a pariah. "Why aren't we invited to the best parties anymore? All we did was support a racist con-artist while he tried to destroy the country")

Given how badly the party has destroyed election integrity in the states it controls, if he won the nomiation by a margin, he'll be installed as president again, no matter how badly he's beaten tin the election.

I agree. Besides it's too far out from the next election. I mean, who declares they're running a full two years before? He's such a loser.
