I watched the D.C. 250th live on TV and have mixed feelings about it. It was unnecessary, late, noisy, and expensive, half obscured by its own smoke. But it had a tinge of inevitability to it, like a loud drunken frat party next door the night before your most important final exam. As if to say, just because there are problems you're eager to solve doesn't mean solutions exist.

I feel the same about the fireworks show.

I agree with other commenters: Thiel’s comments are quite bizarre. I think the midterm polls have the oligarchs so rattled because Trump can’t do his mouthpiece job anymore. Their cover is blown. The oligarchs are seen as evil. MAGA is just doing dress up and the money guys are getting sucked dry. They have to close concentration camps.

Are the money guys actually being sucked dry? I don't see any signs of that. On the contrary, they appear to be the ones who are sucking the rest of the country dry. That's what they are paying Trump for.

As for the current version of the Red Scare (Wikipedia), remember that anybody to the left of MAGA is considered to be a socialist, and anybody to the left of right-wing Democrats is considered to be a communist.
