Jackson: We've got to be careful because we share our intelligence with them and we arm them and share our weapon systems with them and at some point we have to rethink that because things are rapidly changing in Europe and not for the best.

I do hope that every single American knows that the rest of the world, including former Allies, regard Trump as a dangerous idiot. The world in general needs a way to reset who gets to lead, as there are too many very old men, who think nothing of getting others killed, in charge.

I guess my brain just refuses to contemplate the insane scale of this spending. Decades of it and the US military can't sustain a campaign against one modest Middle East nation.

When you have the largest, most advanced military and you attack someone, you start with the clever, expensive stand-off munitions to take out key defences, then you can move in closer with shorter range weapons from your expensive, stealthy planes, and eventually you've worn them down so far you can fly over them with vulnerable old B-52s and drop cheap iron bombs on them. So a sustained campaign becomes cheap but it starts really really expensive.

Of course that doesn't mean you face no losses. Just sustainable losses while you do what you need to do. In this case unfortunately nobody knows what Trump needs to do, least of all him.

I accept that is what is happening, but the question is why do they need to restock? This is a military that is supposed to be able to overmatch any theoretical peer opponent, and Iran has bled its advance munition stockpiles dry?
 
Interesting that if NATO countries took an active role in Ukraine, the destruction of property and lives in Ukraine and Russia would have been of the Iran scale. And a year of that, much worse.

Welcome to the world of asymmetric warfare. If you are twenty times bigger than your opponent, but your opponent is destroying your equipment at a cost ratio of thirty to one, you are losing.

I wonder if Hegseth wanted to encourage the chaplains to emphasise that it was their christian duty to wage war on Islam, forgetting or ignoring that the chaplaincy includes Imams and Rabbis. Hegseth might even have wanted to remove the Imams. The general may have been too ecumenical and insufficiently a Jesus warrior for Hegseth's taste.

Honestly, there's also the Trump-Hegseth factor that shouldn't be underestimated. It's one thing to carry out focused military campaigns to achieve specific military objectives. It's entirely another thing when the goals aren't really military ones (the main real goals had far more to do with internal US politics, at that), there aren't specific military objectives with a clear follow up strategy, and when targeting civilian infrastructure is added on. Trump-Hegseth have been pretty much a picture of arrogant, snobby bullies who are brazenly disrespecting the military and treating the people there as a tool to use to further their personal whims and the financial whims of those they feel like, rather than having any real consideration for the people or best interests of the country.

Isn't it now a historic monument? Also building a new prison there would be ridiculously expensive compared to a clean sheet build elsewhere.
 
Trump ran against HRC to a large part on her supposedly violating the Records Act because of her email server.
Now he insists that no records need to be kept at all (after stealing and hiding records after his first term).

Republicans never care about transparency or accountability, only power.
