Trump's Second Term

It seems the UK has rejected sending any ships to the straits but may send mine countermeasures ships to clear the straits if they are mined

Well, I guess if they don't ever plan to use that strait again, there would be no reason to remove them.
If the regime falls, it's a lingering harm that they wouldn't care about. If the regime survives, well, the gulf states and the US would need to reopen the Strait anyway, so let them pay

Starmer begins his Downing Street speech by setting out how the UK is responding to the war in Iran.

He says the country has clear and constant objectives and the first priority is to protect "our people in the region".

Starmer continues by saying the UK will not be drawn into the wider war.

He adds that the UK will keep working on a swift resolution to stop the Iranian threat.

If some third party managed to obtain a ceasefire commitment from Iran, do we suppose Trump would accept it?

We don't even know yet if his war aims include regime change. He's demanding allies sign a blank cheque, joining in his adventure with no idea where they're going. "Come and suppress Iranian attacks while we continue attacking them. It'll all be over when I decide what counts as over."

War aims ? What about war aims ? Don't you know that, as the world's hegemon, the USA has a divine right to tell everybody what to do without ever having to give any reason for it ?

Yes but even if the rest of the world accepted that. They still would need to know what the senile fool thinks he wants

Trump on Strait of Hormuz: "Really, I'm demanding that these countries come in and protect their own territory, because it is their territory ... you could make the case that maybe we shouldn't be there at all, because we don't need it. We have a lot of oil."
Lots of people made that case, but then someone mentioned Epstein again and here we are...
