Trump's Second Term

FBI agent relieved of duty over refusing Comey perp walk, four people familiar say

WASHINGTON, Oct 3 (Reuters) - An FBI agent was relieved of duty for declining to arrange a "perp walk" of the bureau's former director, James Comey, in front of news media cameras after Comey was federally charged last month, four people briefed on the matter said on Friday.

Comey was charged on September 25 with making false statements and obstructing a congressional investigation, in a dramatic escalation of President Donald Trump's retribution campaign against his political enemies.

‘It’s not a good place right now’: CBS News staffers are ‘literally freaking out’ about Bari Weiss taking over newsroom

The imminent arrival of anti-woke and stridently pro-Israel “heterodox” pundit Bari Weiss as the editor-in-chief of CBS News has left the newsroom’s staff “literally freaking out,” with sources telling The Independent that the Tiffany Network is “not a good place right now.”

The rising frustration among the network’s journalists has also been compounded by the fact that David Ellison, the chief executive of the newly merged Paramount Skydance, is preparing to implement brutal layoffs and slash up to 10 percent of CBS News’ staff – all while paying Weiss up to $150 million to acquire her digital media outlet The Free Press.

Meanwhile, Weiss seizing the reins of the network’s vaunted news division – which has been months in the making – comes as staff have grown increasingly disgruntled with Ellison’s transformation of CBS News, with many feeling that the new owner “lied” to them when he insisted he didn’t want to “politicize” the network.

The whole concept of a "perp walk" seems utterly alien and weird to this non-American. It seems only to exist, as a ritualised public humiliation of someone charged with an offence, because the officials who bring the charges are elected and thus feel the need to aggrandise themselves to the voters. For an agent to be relieved of their duty for failing to perform this ritual stunt suggests it is an official part of their duty to do it. Surely that can't be true?

Well, it's against DoJ policy, as if that matters.

I just googled it. There was a law passed in 1866 which prevents living people from appearing on currency. (Your referenced article suggests it "may" be illegal but from the looks of it it most definitely is.)

Not sure how they will get around it. Completely ignore the law? Print it as some sort of "non currency medallion" that you can buy/sell for $1? Keep the design and have it be released after Trump's death?

Of course a coin you could "buy" from the government but could never use as currency would be the perfect representation of the Trump administration and it's grift.

Or maybe it is just a design to placate Trump, and they never intend to release it.

ETA: maybe they will try and argue that "coins don't count as currency" so the law doesn't apply. I haven't found the text of the law so I don't know if it applies only to printed bills.

The rules might be different for "coins" as opposed to "currency". Coins appear to be covered under 31 USC 5112. which is lengthy and complicated, as it specifies different rules for coins of different denominations and hafor coins that were minted to commemorate different things.

In any event, I imagine that they would rush the coins into production so that by the time the case reached the end of appeals the coins would already be in distribution and it would be too late to stop.

It should have been too; imagine any other presidential candidate mocking a physically challenged individual. He's just a garbage individual, a hero to the deplorables.
Yes, that was chilling. It would have been career ending for any other politician, and it should have been the end for him. He really is disgusting in every way. Maybe he will get ICE to round up anyone with disabilities as well? I hear alligator alcatraz is empty - all the inmates seem to have dusapoeared - so maybe send them there instead? A free holiday in sunny Florida for all the poor cripples, what's not to like?

It's weird how obssessed he is with the appearance of other people in general, and how he seemingly feels that he himself is in a position where he can make fun of others. He must have seen himself in mirrors, surely? He does show up in them, I imagine, unlike Stephen Miller.
