Trump's Second Term

Give us what we want or else...

Nice negotiating

JD Vance: "We don't want to shut down the government, but if Democrats refuse to just pass this clean continuing resolution, that's exactly what's going to happen."
As an addendum to this topic -

Eight Ways the Republicans Have Already Shut Down the Government

To poke at a couple things of particular note, DOGE's efforts, breaking USAID, firing huge portions of the federal workforce, and numerous parts of the government that actually serve the people getting hamstrung or cut. That the Republican far right political activists on the Supreme Court just let the Trump administration pick and choose whether they fulfill their constitutionally mandated role in disbursing funds just makes things generally worse.

Going further, Republicans have a trifecta. If there is a shut down, it is 100% their responsibility. Trump's apparently specifically told Republicans not to work with Democrats at all, on top of that, which even removes any reasonable cause to have Democrats share any responsibility for this potential Republican orchestrated shut down.

Oh, and to tie this in with other matters, Johnson seems like he might have other matters on his mind than a potential shutdown. Delaying swearing in that last vote that would force an Epstein-related vote that he's been trying to avoid may well be more important to him than any hint of responsibility.

As a side note on that front, there's this quote in the previous link. "My brother said that if the public knew everything he knew about Trump, they would have cancelled the election. - Mark Epstein" Mark may have a higher opinion of the Republican Party than I do, especially the MAGA part of it, but the quote is worthy of some note.

In other news, Democrats have been doing various things, as poked at in this link that is a roundup of snippets from social media.

Trump: "Quiet! You're really obnoxious."

Reporter: "I'm not obnoxious, I'm trying to ask a question.”

Trump: "You're really obnoxious. I’m not going to talk to you”

trump says, "we have to save New Orleans. And we're going into New York, too."

Troops on the streets of Blue cities. Horrible. But what really struck me was, trump's demeanor, his way of speaking. trump's not well.

It may be true that Walters, Cronkite and rather would ask Trump the "hard" questions

The problem is, any journalist who tries that would probably never get a chance to interview Trump in the first place. Remember, he is incredibly thin skinned and dismissive to reporters that do not worship him.

Zeldin on why renewable energy is bad: "Those battery storage sites cost a whole lot of money, and they then catch on fire and these local municipalities, fire departments, they aren't prepared for those massive fires that end up resulting and those environmental impacts."

Like Zeldin and Trump give a flying ◊◊◊◊ about environmental impact.

I have to admit, I am surprised that New Orleans would be targeted.

Yeah, its a "blue" city (with a democrat as the mayor), but its still in a deep-red state. While the MAGAchud are incredibly forgiving of Trump abusing them, there may be a few republicans who don't want to see "their" state affected like California/etc.

Why can't Comey just sue Trump for slander?
2 issues: he will have the resources of the DOJ to defend him and he will withhold any government work from any Law Firm willing to sue him for Comey.
I could be wrong about this, but isn't there also some sort of legal protection for people in the government to not be subject to a lawsuit for actions taken as part of "their job"?

That's SOP over here: Johnson, B famously avoided being interviewed by certain journalists known for hard questions during a general election campaign and was very prone to only talking to favoured stooges.

Firing 2 million government workers is a win/win/win scenario though
It's a win because all the money they and their projects cost can now go to the billionaires...
And to Trump. All those people in California that are protecting "some fish" so Trump could not open the faucet to run the water from Oregon to Los Angeles.

Trump race against time? (free part quoted)
President Donald Trump is worried that Attorney General Pam Bondi is moving too slowly to prosecute his political adversaries on fake charges. Trump has good reason to be concerned. He is carrying out his project to consolidate authoritarian power against the trend of declining public support for his administration and himself. He is like a man trying to race upward on a downward-moving escalator. If he loses the race, he will be pulled ever deeper below—and the escalator keeps moving faster against him.

Autocracies are headed by one man but require the cooperation of many others. Some collaborators may sincerely share the autocrat’s goals, but opportunists provide a crucial margin of support. In the United States, such people now have to make a difficult calculation: Do the present benefits of submitting to Trump’s will outweigh the future hazards? Will Trump ultimately retain the power to reward and punish her? It’s not just about keeping her present job. On the one hand, people in Trump’s favor can make a lot of money from their proximity to power. On the other, Richard Nixon’s attorney general, John Mitchell, served 19 months in prison for his crimes during Watergate. If Trump’s hold on power loosens, Bondi could share Mitchell’s fate.

I went to Target and Walmart looking for the same thing, neither had it. But I did get to check the customers. All white people except for one black at Target. We are a city, but the customers are almost homogeneous at every Walmart in the state. They are 90% Republicans. Half of them are overweight, and a few of them carry concealed weapons. Nobody at a Target in daytime will have a weapon. Some stores in bigger cities will have the occasional gun. The Target customers here in the prairie will be 50-60% Democrats.

They aren't coming back

Thune: "We've got a big harvest coming in here in South Dakota, corn and soybeans, and no place to go with it ... we are looking at potential solutions to make sure we can help support farmers until some of those markets come back.
Oh, I have a potential solution for ya: Stop actively driving the markets away with a bloody stupid tariff war. Then they might come back.

Hope that helps.

And there's no help coming from Schitler either. But if you're a fascist dictator, you can get whatever you need.

Here in Southern N.H., I go to Walmart every three weeks or so for something that is a lot less expensive than in Walgreens. YMMV in North Dakota, of course, but I see a pretty normal percentage (for Southern N.H.) of Black, Hispanic, Asian, etc. people there. However, I do also see a lot of overweight white people, but I can't pass judgment as to whether large numbers of them are MAGA or carrying.

What would you have to line a fridge with to block out wi-fi signals from pesky reporters?

Yes, I know it wasn't that kind of fridge.

I think lead would do it (and be rather useful if we got to tip a Bojo holding fridge into the Thames, North Sea or other convenient, and deep, body of water), but lead doesn't strike me as a good material for thermally insulating a fridge.
