Well, there's useful and there's useful. They're reservists, so they'll have real jobs back home, from which they've been absent for more than 2 weeks now.

I remain curious about how federalised National Guard deployments get compensated. Do employers just have to take the loss while their staff are absent, or do they receive compensation? Do the guards get paid time off from their employer, or paid by their state, or paid by Uncle Sam?

I'm just curious about whose money and time is being wasted.
