My grand father was a British liaison with Eisenhower, and would say both were true. He was always clear that only the bravery and determination of US forces resulted in Omaha landings being a success, but that they should have listened to British advice and have tanks and 'funnies' to support infantry. (His job was to hand over Ultra which was British eyes only and had to go directly for him to Eisenhower and not via junior US staff officers.)
Maybe. But there were LSTs bringing in tanks during the first wave on the Omaha Beach including specialized amphibious Shermans and some of Hobart's funnies. Pretty much every tank in that first wave was swamped by rough seas or destroyed by the German batteries. Obviously, things went wrong for the Americans on that beach. My father never talked about it other to say it was the worst day of his life as well as to say it was that Destoyer that saved his life. He was in the Navy and was forced to swim ashore when the LST he was on was hit. He never saw a single enemy soldier. Only the havoc they created.

Looks like it's on like Donkey Kong. I for one am stoked that we have leadership that shows the moral clarity, courage, patience and steady hand to guide us through these troubled times.
People from Iran are a little cagey about saying they're from Iran. I don't blame them. Some may prefer to be called Persian. I'm thrilled anytime I run into someone who might be from Iran because I always want to hear their stories. But I know it's probably rude to say, "What's your nationality?" Or, "Where did you come from?"

Re: This post and the one that said he acted like a king. Yes he did. It's problematic. But IF we are not being fed a bunch of malarkey, these airstrikes won't turn the US into a pariah. It could go there very quickly, but for right now ... I bet there are a lot of people (and nations) who are relieved at the way this apparently went. It was very strategic.
