Trump's Second Term

To be clear, state law prohibits us from serving "doubles" in a dram shop. The legally mandated maximum shot is 1.5 fluid ounces. 32B Utah Code § 304(1)(a). I'm referring to this product: https://highwest.com/products/double-rye (age verification required).

The mayor of Newark has appeared for his arraignment and has pled not guilty. It is hoped his trial will be expedited to occur this summer. And if Alina Habba is handling the trial practice herself, it should make for some cracking legaltainment.
I am familiar with that product.

Doesn't mean he can walk around the local federal construction site and do an inspection.
Straw man.

Again, you seem to not know what a strawman is.
I assure you I do.

Yes, and they send an inspector to do that, with the right qualifications, training and necessary OSHA required PPE. Not the ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ mayor who is engaged in a publicity stunt cuz he's running for Governor.
Straw man.

I keep hearing the statement "ignorance of the law is no excuse," and I think at times it is used wrong.

As I understand it, it means that being unaware of a law or its contents is no excuse for breaking it. In other words, if you said "I didn't know it was against the law to steal my neighbor's goats" it would not absolve you from the crime of stealing your neighbor's goats.

It does not mean the same thing as being wrong about the law. In this case, there is a very big difference between the "no excuse" instance of saying "I don't know who is or isn't allowed here because I don't know what's in the trespassing law" and instance of saying "according to my understanding, I'm not trespassing." The latter case might still be wrong, but it's not "ignorance of the law" in the proper sense of the well worn-out old maxim.

My understanding of how the law works is my best effort as a lay person who has been privileged to associate with practicing attorneys who will answer questions for me and engage in debate and discussion over High West Double Rye, and occasionally advocate for me in court.
The New Hampshire Liquor Commission website says that is available in stores, I may be going near one later today, I'll have to check that out.

You seem to not know what a strawman is. You keep throwing around the accusation at everything.
You keep attacking a weaker version of the argument I'm making, substituting for it something you imagine needs to be the case. That's a straw man.

Blindly throwing around this term is not debate.
Neither is repeatedly trying to make me answer for an argument I never made and which I have explicitly repudiated. You keep doing it, and there is a limit to my obligation to give you any more rebuttal that the previous half-dozen times you tried the same thing.

You're free to ignore my posts. No one forces you to seek them out and respond, over and over again.

In other news, Ras Baraka is running for Governor of NJ, and his scuffle at the ICE facility was clearly an attempt to grab the headlines from the other MANY candidates. Seems it worked.

And you're free not to post in a forum where you're repeatedly challenged. I choose not to ignore your posts. I also choose to respond to them in a way that seems most appropriate to me. That may not be the way you want.

You're welcome to your opinion. However, you have not addressed the irregularities in the mayor's arrest that suggest the arrest was a politically motivated publicity stunt. The charging attorney made informal, although public, allegations of fact that are easily disproved. The arrest was ordered by political appointees who did not witness the event.

Straw man. No one is claiming the mayor was ignorant of the law. The claim is that the mayor had a right to enter the facility, not as a member of Congress would have, but as the chief executive of the city in which the building sits.

i think it’s likely enough to say the mayor was also there at the invitation of the members of congress he was with. i would assume members of congress have some discretion as to guests allowed in facilities they have access to

The only provision in statute is that members of Congress may designate an employee of Congress to act in their stead for the oversight granted by the statute. It does not provide for guests who are not members or employees of Congress, and it does not allow designated employees to enter unannounced. The statute explicitly authorizes ICE to require (at its discretion) 24 hours' notice for designated employee visits. The mayor would not have been allowed entry under this statute simply for being in the company of members of Congress.

alright, i'd have to take your word for it.

in any case, i think the technically tresspassing so no harm done angle is missing the bigger picture.
