If they stocked up in advance, the shelves won't be so empty, and that's a good thing, or at least Trump and Co won't look so bad in the short term. But it seems like all that stocking up would have added to the trade deficit, which is what the whole tariff thing is about. So it seems like Bessent's short-term slant here involves forgetting what the long-term point was to begin with.

They did not have time to stock up on goods. For major companies they have to plan months and months ahead to significantly increase stock, they have to increase their storage capacity. Never mind that it would take time for their suppliers to increase their manufacturing etc.

I suspect Trump's DOlls comment is scaring the hell out of a number of Republcians running in swing districts......the American people have shown time and time again their tolerance for economic pain is very low. What worked for the GOP in 2024 might well work agains them in 2026,

The bad news is: they're all creepy haunted dolls like those featured in a slew of recent horror movies.

That's because the role of the press isn't to hold those in power to account, or to be the guardian of the truth, it's to generate views and either justify their existence (public sector) or create a profit.

With half the US population fully signed up to MAGA and another big slice profoundly disinterested, and yet more who want their journalism for free, there's no real money in "proper" journalism
