Secretary of Transportation Duffy: "The president is talking about shower heads. You don't have enough water that can come through your shower heads because of Biden's regulations. So fixing small things like that -- hopefully he's gonna get the dishwashers. Wouldn't it be great if dishwashers worked again?"
EPA WaterSense showerheads deliver no more than 2.0 gpm. Federal law limited the flow to 2.5 gpm since 1992. President Trump has been whingeing about this since 2020.
No more whingeing! The anointed one has delivered!

Do people expect that the stock market will continue to climb, or was that surge caused by people trying to ride the wave?

I don't imagine that this shows a sudden surge of confidence as the baseline tariffs are still on, China and the US will hit each other hard, and there is still no clear policy, nobody knows what Trump's goal is with this unless it is simple insider trading that explains the whole thing.

As of the close of the day on April 9, my positive/negative score on the Trump administration stands at -450.

9 April 2025
+1: Executive Order: Reducing Anti-competitive Regulatory Barriers
+1: Executive Order: Restoring America’s Maritime Dominance
0: Executive Order: Reforming Foreign Defense Sales to Improve Speed and Accountability
0: Executive Order: Zero-based Regulatory Budgeting to Unleash American Energy
0: Executive Order: Modernizing Defense Acquisitions and Spurring Innovation in the Defense Industrial Base
-1: Executive Order: Addressing Risks from Susman Godfrey (Yet another law firm shakedown)
-1: Executive Order: Maintaining Acceptable Water Pressure in Showerheads (-1 for attacking useful regulation)
-1: Trump asks Congress to pass a tax cut bill [138]
-1: Trump pauses tariffs for 90 days (-1 for bumbling inconsistency)
-1: Trump on X: "Up 2500 points. Nobody has ever heard of it. Gotta be a record." (But it has dropped 8,200 since February!)
-1: Trump claims "it’s proven" that the 2020 election was rigged, citing the fact that law firms are giving him money
-1: Trump on the Great Lakes: "I assume the lakes are all interconnected."
-1: Secretary of Transportation Duffy rambles about low-flow shower heads.

I scored two of these orders as positive because on a quick read-though I didn't see any red flags. Three of them are too complicated for me to want to spend the time analyzing them, so I gave them a neutral score. I'll adjust the scores if others are willing to read them carefully and point out problems.

139: Secretary of Transportation Duffy: "The president is talking about shower heads. You don't have enough water that can come through your shower heads because of Biden's regulations. And now Hollywood studios are in a panic because China just announced that US Movies might be banned from Chinese Theaters as part of the Retaliation. So their tyring to placate Trump is really paying off for them.......

No more whingeing! The anointed one has delivered!

Just when I thought the (few) adults in the room were having an influence on Trump, we have this.

Seriously, would any other world leader of the most insignificant nations waste even a microsecond of time on ◊◊◊◊ like this?

In any case, most non-idiots know you can increase water pressure by removing the filter.

Restoring America's Maritime Dominance means gutting regulations, tariffs on materials and equipment from abroad and extra tariffs on any foreign goods coming in from Canada and Mexico that could have come to a US port.

Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) and replace it with people from his own companies in the name of efficiency.
Tesla warships anyone?

The fundamentals have changed. For the worse.

Trump has increased uncertainty. How can businesses plan their supply chains? Which affects US exporters. Not just from the retaliatory tariffs but the materials and subcomponents they import and use to add value.

Also if Trump is doing this, what else will he do on a whim?

Pension funds are still going to be down, US bonds are going to be less safe. After all he's breaking treaties he signed with great fanfare in his first term. He's made the US poorer and trust in the US will reduce until something changes so another Trump cannot trash so much so easily.

"Sec. 3. Rescinding Anti-Competitive Regulations. (a) Agency heads shall, in consultation with the Chairman of the Federal Trade Commission (Chairman) and the Attorney General, complete a review of all regulations subject to their rulemaking authority and identify those that:

(ii) create unnecessary barriers to entry for new market participants;"

FDA review of new drugs? EPA review of new pesticides? OSHA-mandated safety equipment and safety training in factories? Product labels that have to meet OSHA, FDA, or EPA labeling requirements? Sounds like an "unnecessary barrier to entry" for new businesses.

He's already suggested defaulting on US bonds, which China happens to hold a lot of.

I think you're talking off of cuff here. Which section of the executive order talks about gutting regulations?

Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) and replace it with people from his own companies in the name of efficiency.
Tesla warships anyone?
Where in the executive order is NAVSEA mentioned?

It will come down to whether many important regulations such as the ones you mentioned will be deemed necessary or not. In the current environment, it's uncomfortably possible they will be seen as unnecessary.
