The Economist reported, "There are enormous conflicts of interest here, notes Don Moynihan of the Ford School of Public Policy in Michigan. After all, Mr Musk’s companies have faced probes from almost every federal regulator the billionaire is now gutting. Yet Professor Moynihan goes on to say that grift does not explain doge. Even with Mr Trump filming a free Tesla advert on the White House lawn; the commerce secretary tipping its stock on live tv; and people who vandalise Teslas threatened with deportation to El Salvador, Tesla’s market value has slumped."
 
Dump has been arguing with his boyfriend Vlad, threatening 25% tariffs if russia doesn't stop the smo. Apparently putin offended Zelensky, which I guess is only okay if Dump and his pet dork JD does it, like Dump has claimed him as his bitch or something. I don't know, it's been a while since I left middle school so I don't understand intrigue at that level anymore.

I've read that it's Thiel behind it, he's had some of his insane visions for the future and they involve building megastructures in Greenland. The dude is far crazier than Musk.

There is a lot to be said about the culture of tech bros. And the weird* science fiction influences one can see in their thinking.

*of course Musk famously misses the point of a couple of science fiction sources he's invoked - Star Trek explicitly, and The Culture in the name of various Space X vessels.

The call it "The Great Depression" but I have men coming up to me, big men , strong men, with tears in their eyes, saying "Sir",they always call me "Sir", "Sir, the Trump Depression is going to be so much greater".
 
The Regime keeps revoking secret service security details for those that they don't like, even though they haven't had them, or ever had them. They don't do this because they are stupid and don't know. They public announcements of revocation is to signal to their base that the hunt is on.
 
I'm absolutely sure he's going to back out of the tariffs, with some lame excuse and twist that they caved because of him (even if they don't) so he doesn't have to do it. Then profit on the stock market bounce.

Back when it was first announced trump's Atlantic City casinos were insolvent -- and trump was at risk of losing them -- my employer at the time said to me, "This guy makes the same mistakes over and over. There's got to be something wrong with him." My employer, by the way was both a millionaire and a truly self-made man. His father wasn't a wealthy real estate mogul, he was a laborer.

That’s my prediction - and hope!

But the uncertainty is already affecting markets - it’s impossible for a business to make plans when the future changes moment to moment.

Personal anecdote: I bought a piece of electronic gear on a Monday for $465. Literally the next day I was pushed an ad from the same company for the same item for $719! The president of the company blamed tariffs, but who really knows?

I was a fan of the NFL and became a fan of both the USFL and the New Jersey Generals. I used to regularly watch their Spring season games. Doug Flutie and Hershel Walker. Then in 1986 they moved to the Fall. First Sunday I channel surfed between the NFL games and the USFL game. I immediately noticed, especially in the line play, the USFL teams looked second-rate compared to the NFL teams. On one play there was a penalty called on a lineman for blatant holding. He took his helmet off, slammed it to the ground and began bellowing at the ref. His big beer belly was hanging out. It was like watching a semi-pro game. I flipped back to the NFL game and never watched another play of a USFL game.

There were a LOT of people who never watched another USFL game. The league folded at the end of the season.
