Trump's Second Term

When asked if the Administration will comply with court orders on fired federal workers, WH Press Secretary Leavitt says the orders are unconstitutional: You cannot have a low level district court judge filing an injunction to usurp the executive authority of the President

Trump lying on live TV
"We are not allowed to sell cars to the EU. It's prohibited".
"We sell no cars to Europe".

There are many, many other reasons why the last many, many cars we have had are either German or Japanese (EU built), not least I can't think of a US car that remotely compares to the German ones we've had or have.

Don't understand why anyone on the correct side of the Atlantic touches Merkinainian cars with a barge pole.

Seems the court has already answered the constitutionality question. Because, you know, that's what courts expressly do.

WYDEN: Do you believe in a nursing home there should be a registered nurse available around the clock?

DR OZ: As you know, that's a complicated question

WYDEN: No it's not. We need a nurse in a nursing home. Not too complicated.

When I was doing agency nursing for a couple of years, I got a load of shifts from registered nursing homes who needed a qualified nurse (MH in these instances) on duty at all times to meet their registration conditions and also to dole out meds and to Know Important Stuff.

Why the buggery bollocks would Merkinania do something different? And why does Oz suggest it's complicated? Is it because the man is an idiot?

Duffy: "We should do an investigation. I want to know -- are there DEI practices still in place?
There are no air traffic controllers currently performing that job who have not met all the requirements. Firing all the ATC controllers who are not straight white men will not improve air safety.

Because the president has been incredibly clear he wants the best and brightest air controllers controlling our skies. I agree with him on that. So we're gonna be an OIG investigation."
In the disastrous cabinet meeting where Elon Musk tried to dress down the cabinet secretaries for not firing all the people Musk told them to, Pres. Trump stated that he wanted to recruit controllers from MIT because in his opinion they "have to be geniuses."

No, they don't. They have to be calm under pressure and to think quickly and accurately on their feet. MIT students are generally not that kind of person, and grow bored quickly with that kind of work.

Because it would save money for the private nursing homes if they could shell out minimum wage to an untrained teenager rather than paying for a nurse, and every penny scrimped goes the shareholders. Everything is always meant to make money for shareholders, and anything that doesn't have shareholders needs to be destroyed so it can be replaced by something that can generate money for shareholders. It's what America's all about!

Has it occurred to anyone that the reason why trump wants Greenland is his perceived size of the landmass. His obsession with 'maps' lately got me thinking, does he have any idea of what the Mercator projection does to the apparent size of land masses on a 2d image?

Probably a stupid question, but is this an intentionally mis-spelled America, or does it refer to something else?

It is a very deliberate mis-spelling of America, with the intention of being a bit piss take-y by referring to merkins.

Can't remember where I got it from - I must have nicked it - but I seem to recall starting to use it when Dubya was in office, what with all his language manglings and mispronunciations. It might have come from some Steve Bell cartoons in the Guardian, as he ripped the piss out of Dubya something rotten.

Damn! I hadn't thought of that!

It would work for Canada too.

The current argument to deport Mahmoud Khalil is that Little Marco is scared of what Israel will do if the US doesn't do it.

The administration makes no claim that he did anything illegal, is working with any banned group or did anything wrong.

No, the position of Rubio is that, sure, if it was up to the US we would LOVE to keep Mr. Kahlil in the US, or we wouldn't have given him a permanent right to stay. But if we don't kick him out it would have bad consequences for US-Israel relationships, because the US is so weak and Israel so strong.
It's pathetic. Making the US respected in the world looks different.

With regards to MSN.
If I think a quote is relevant to the thread I will quote them.
Who are you to tell me what news source I can quote?
Obviously I can't enforce it. What I can do is point out that some sites on the web are friendlier than others to the original goals of the World Wide Web, one of which was the free and open sharing of information. MSN is an outlier by not using HTML, the standard language of the web, to render its output. This means only the most recent and up-to-date JavaScript-compliant web browsers can read the site.

As for JavaScript not working on 'older browsers' what browser are you trying to use?
Non-graphical web clients such as elinks, wget, and curl. These are tools used by programmers and system administrators and run on the command line. They are very valuable for doing text captures in scripts. The output then can be run through other tools to analyze the text.

For example, in the absence of a search function on this forum, I can dump the entire text of a multi-page thread and search it for comments. I cannot do that with any MSN article because they have screwed with the standards, rendering HTML-only tools useless. Just like Trump and company have rendered many parts of the US government useless by ruthlessly ignoring two centuries of conduct and tradition.

It's always puzzled me why the USA can produce such well engineered products and yet its cars, particularly its IC engines, are so technologically behind what European and Japanese manufacturers achieved. I wonder if the same will be true of US electric cars?
