Trump's Second Term

TBH, I was really hoping that would happen under the Biden administration. Something like, "whoa, look how much a rogue president could screw things up! We should reinforce the guardrails, put more checks in place, etc, just in case that ever happens again." Instead, as far as I can tell, all that happened was that Biden cancelled Trump's Schedule F EO, which of course Trump promptly reinstated once he was back in office.

You'd think it's the sort of thing that you could get Congress to support.
I'm pretty bitterly disappointed about that.
Why would you think that ?

The Republicans have demonstrated for at least a couple of decades that they have no interest in governing and for the past 9 years have been firmly in the thrall of Donald Trump. They have absolutely no interest in, and no intention of, firming up the guardrails - indeed they want to weaken the guardrails by threatening to deport judges who rule against Trump and suppressing free speech.

I don't see this lasting that long, either. It's like unmitigated climate change, it's simply not sustainable.

Will what comes after Dump be better, though? I honestly don't know.
I get it, but can one honestly conceive of a more annoying figurehead...I can't. At least if someone like Charles Manson were president, they would at least be wearing their swastika right on their head, you wouldn't have to think about it.

I don't see how that would help much, to be honest. Dump hopefully won't last four years, either due to dementia or just expiring from old age and too many hamberders, but
you know Musk and Vance will be just as bad.
Maybe some of his cultists will snap out of it when Daddy Drumpf dies, and will start to look more critically at what's happening to America, but I've kinda lost hope of that. We don't just need to dump Dump, we need the Democrats or some other party back in office. Is that possible without violence? No clue, but I'm afraid it's not.
This has been discussed at length before, but to reiterate, No. They are certainly despicable, and possibly more capable of causing harm, but as political figures neither is anywhere near as bad because they cannot and will not acquire a cult of personality. Elon has a smaller group of fanboys, but he, and especially Vance, are merely tolerated by MAGA at best. While he may entertain harmful policies, neither he nor Musk will ever have the cult adoration commanded by a lifelong playboy and tv reality star--that is what, coincident with mental illness, makes trump so dangerous as a political figure.

At the beginning of the Biden administration, Democrats controlled the House and the Senate, albeit with narrow majorities. And I'd have thought that even the Republicans would have been okay with the idea of limiting the power of a Democrat president, even if those limitations might eventually apply to a non-Democrat.

But I was young and naive.

"So my mean parents get kicked out, what's the big deal?" This:
Here is the part that is going to make your hair stand up. As of today 29 states have what are known as ‘filial responsibility laws.' Filial responsibility is a legal concept in which an adult child is financially responsible for their parents’ unpaid healthcare costs. Some states extend this responsibility to close relatives too.

In short, an individual could have filial responsibility if they have the means to pay for their parents’ unpaid long-term case bills, when their parents are not covered by Medicaid but do not have the financial means to pay for them. Even if you are estranged from your parents or loved ones…you can bear the burden. They will literally garnish your wages for non-compliance in many states.

Donald on Canadian electricity

Donald J. Trump
@realDonald Trump

Why would our Country allow another Country to supply us with electricity, even for a small area? Who made these decisions, and why? And can you imagine Canada stooping so low as to use ELECTRICITY, that so affects the life of innocent people, as a bargaining chip and threat? They will pay a financial price for this so big that it will be read about in History Books for many years to come!

I wonder what they're calling pro-Hamas activity? I suspect it is any protest against Trump's actions and words about Gaza.

They're already thinking about it, genius.

Steel and Aluminium tariffs on Canada to 50%
Canada can have the tariffs removed if they become the 51st state
Threat of massive tariffs on Canadian Automobiles
National Emergency because of Canadian electricity

I wonder why the market is falling again today?

I do wonder why legitimate news sources keep going to these pressers, when it's obvious that the press secretary is lying through her teeth. I mean, most of what trump does, is announced through his social media account anyway.
Also, they are only allowed if they are cooperative, don't ask tough questions and do not follow up on obvious lies with more questions.
