Trump's Second Term

godwin's law was this cute little thing we could use when we all agreed that hitler was a bad guy. we don't anymore, and i don't think we should be limited to comparisons with hitler until he's conducted his own holocaust. i also don't think we need some massive ethnic cleansing plan either to recognize the dangers of what's happening in the country.

but these conservatives will argue endlessly with no real point in mind over stuff like that and completely side step the real point. i get that it's annoying to have to admit you were wrong about something you've been endlessly defending for nearly a decade, and you were wrong the whole time and it was obvious about 5 years ago, but humiliating yourself constantly must also be annoying right?

According to the Washington Post, The 19-year-old nicknamed “Big Balls” who Elon Musk gave access to the Social Security payment system has now also been given a job as a Senior Advisor at the United States State Department.

Even if you accept that a 19 year old with no previous experience of government has the necessary knowledge or skills to perform either of those roles acceptably (and that's a huge "if" in my opinion) then to ask them to do both is spreading them a little thin IMO.

Just listened to a recent "We have ways of making you talk" podcast featuring Rob Rinder (a Jewish judge and media personality - the UK's Judge Judy) and he is very concerned about the Trump administration's attitude towards the judiciary and parallels with 1930's Germany.

This bit isn't like the rise of fascism in Germany.

Though setting your young zealots loose on the state's bureaucracy to root out counterrevolutionary elements is strikingly like the Red Guards of Mao's Cultural Revolution in China.

There’s no reliable evidence to support the claim that FEMA “sent $59 M to luxury hotels in New York City to house illegal migrants” in a way that violates the law or a presidential executive order. For months similar claims with allegations that FEMA misused disaster relief funds for migrant housing. However, multiple fact‐checks by reputable news organizations and watchdog groups have found that these claims are either misleading or taken completely out of context.
Wasn't the only time when it was documented that major fraud occured at FEMA during Katrina when the reich-wing were in charge as now?

Should we expect an EO getting rid of Judges next?

Elon seems to be preparing the ground

Just from the last 4 hours

We are witnessing an attempted coup of American democracy by radical left activists posing as judges!

Democracy in America is being destroyed by judicial coup. An activist judge is not a real judge.

What’s the point of elections if judges can override everything a POTUS does?

Judicially-mandated corruption!

We need judicial reform now!

True!

This is deeply wrong!
A judge just blocked dropping the overhead charged on NIH grants from the outrageous 60% to a far more reasonable 15%. This judge is FORCING the CORRUPTION to CONTINUE. WTF.

Well, my wife wanted to go to the USA for the summer holidays, but I think we´ll pass for now. Turning into a dictatorship makes one want to stay away.
I've been to the USA many times, but I'm not planning to go in the foreseeable future.
Seriously? Is this a thing?
See the movie Rebel Ridge. Obviously fiction, but based on the current legislation.

I don't dare go to the US right now, either. Between the hostility and polarization, the risk of terror and violence, and the descent into dictatorship, I'm staying away. Also, with all the sabre-rattling against Denmark's Greenland, for all I know the trumpkins could suddenly decide they hate Scandis.

Yeah, Europeans are probably not welcome anymore in the U.S., since the public was informed by Drumpf about the unspeakable atrocity the EU did to the U.S..

I hate to be that guy, but regarding the civil forfeiture stories, I see it as more of a sign that the US needs to start relying more on cards and Internet transactions, already, especially for major transactions like buying trucks or cashing in lottery winnings. Surely sending sums between bank accounts must be trivial in the States, too? Online transactions also make it harder for criminals.

I'm a member on a pretty obscure penpals website and today received a completely unsolicited invitation from an American guy advising that as a white South African, I can apply for refugee status in the USA, with directions to a link on X. One of his profile pics is Musk in a US-flag sleeping blanket on the floor (this pic is starting to do the rounds on social media hailing Musk as a hero working day and night protecting the people from fraud without any recompense).

This makes me think that he's got some kind of troll farm working on this, approaching a particular demographic. wtf?

i’m sure they want as many dead animals as possible, most likely to burn for energy

All this criminal upheaval at the highest levels will do magic for the US tourism industries, by making it disappear. It will be literally safer and more welcoming to visit Afghanistan, Iraq or Iran. Or Gaza. Wonder if the MAGAs thought that one through too.

they have - in particular the need to reach your embassy in case of some local cop stealing all your money because of "civil forfeiture".

Yes, that's been a thing for years. It's not a new Trump thing. It's been true under several administrations, Democratic and Republican. It's part of the "War on Drugs". I'm guessing since Reagan.
