They still supported him even after 2016-2020, and let's remember a million Americans died then, and the summer of 2020 was marked by widespread police violence against peaceful anti-racist protesters. I expect the cultists to look back at this period with rose-tinted glasses, just like last time. Remember, Dump supporters aren't white, male, Muslim, etc. first and foremost --more than anything, they're cultists. No matter what Dump does, it doesn't seem to shake his base or affect his approval rating, we saw this clearly in the election campaign.
 
If I were Newsom, I'd play along with the joke and publicly say that California was mulling the offer over, and while they do, they will forthwith be withholding the taxes to the feds in preparation of changing the system to allow them to instead give it to the Danish government.

Like the Muslims for Trump who didn't like Biden's support for Israel (but now see that Trump wants the US to "take over" Gaza). That would involve accepting they made a mistake. Some Trump successor will claim that it was the deep state or that Trump just fell short and they can carry out the same solutions and make them work. If the choice is believe that or believe you were conned, well I know which I think is more likely.

But remember that a lot of Trump voters think that the pandemic was badly overblown and was manipulated by the democrats, so that wouldn't count against Trump. And they think that dark-skinned minority rioters were "burning cities to the ground" so of course the police were protecting decent people from that. I know Trump supporters who honestly believe that the economy was in a nose-dive at the end of the Obama administration, that Trump saved it, but then it tanked again under Biden so we need Trump again.

Yes, it's a perspective uncontaminated by facts. But with that perspective, if the cities aren't being burned to the ground and the economy hasn't completely crashed, then it's because Trump saved us.

It's depressing.

Oh I already admitted thy were idiots.

But, I think the 4 years of biden allowed them to view Trump's presidency with rose-colored glasses and/or selective amnesia. (It allowed them to forget all the problems he caused back then.) It will be different for some of these marginal voters if Trump is actually in office at the time, causing havoc, and they can't look back and say "Biden caused the price of eggs to increase so I will forget that Trump cratered the economy in his first term".

Most of Trump's supporters are hardcore MAGAchud who won't be swayed by facts, logic, reason, etc. I'm just talking about the marginal groups he picked up in the 2024 election who made their "deal with the devil"

Exactly. The ability of people to believe what they want or need to believe and to deny reality when it contradicts those wants or needs is mind boggling. People would rather be wrong than admit they are wrong.
 
I have one ex-friend I still sometimes check on FB as all his posts are public. He never stops being angry at Democrats as they "hate America", steal votes, everything. Never seems to express an emotion other than outrage. Guess which "news" he watches. Not a dumb guy at all but is never wrong.

Remember when after a year of expert testimony, horse trading, revisions, and cutting out two of the best provisions (public option and Medicare negotiating drug prices), Obamacare was "rammed through" the House and Senate?

I think about that all the time. Trump is literally doing everything, and then some, Glenn Beck was ranting and raving about every afternoon of FOX until the day he was fired, and then continued on his "Blaze" media circus, I imagine still.
 
At least Trump isn’t already taking a break at a golfing resort, and of course Trump has never worn a tan suit!
