Are you going to now argue that actually USAID did so give 8 million dollars to Pro Publica Politico [ed.]?

Besides, much of these types of expenditures for subscriptions were on publically available databases.

For example,
A post on X, formerly Twitter, by Elon Musk, posted on February 5, 2025, viewed 14 million times, highlighted another post by conservative comentator Ian Miles Cheong, that said: "The US Government gave the New York Times tens of millions of dollars over just the past 5 years despite paying relatively little money to the NYT in the years preceding 2021. For instance, in August 2024, the US government awarded $4.1 million to the NYT.

Searching for "New York Times" returns unrelated spending for other institutions that include the words "New York" in some part of the spending entry. They include grants to The Research Foundation for the State University of New York, New York University and the New York Genome Center Inc.

The results also show spending records for more than 17 years.

Besides, I wouldn't even call Ian Miles Cheong a "conservative". He's just a MAGA-pilled moron.

This whole thing is such a slurry of garbage information that the more appropriate stance is to be incredulous rather than credulous. You do yourself no favours by lapping up this crap.

The Constitution says the President appoints, among other things, "Officers" of the United States. The Advice and Consent clause gives the Senate a say in who those may be and what constitutions their qualifications. Title 5 of the United States Code covers those officers that Congress deems ordinary employees.

Regardless, the judiciary is the final authority on whether a law has been broken. That extends to whether the executive is operating lawfully. That's not the same as determining whether the executive is acting wisely. That's a political question.

I've seen all kinds of people claiming that Musk discovered that USAID was doing this or that and nobody had any idea. Senator Kennedy was saying this stuff, so I googled each of the things he said he had no idea about until Musk came along and ALL of them have webpages specifically about them, such as...

If Senator Kennedy did not know about it, it wasn't because it was a secret. It was because he wasn't paying attention himself. Maybe Senator Kennedy should not be entrusted to do the job he himself does if he can't use Google or search a frigging website.
