Watching the inauguration, I had two - nay, three! - laugh out loud moments:

I'll repeat my WAG from before. The seemingly random intent to expand America and rename the Gulf of Mexico is being driven by China/Russian assets inside team Trump. America being actively expansionist will validate similar Russian and Chinese attacks on other sovereign nations and areas of influence.

During Trump's first term, he asked the Senators and Representatives from Alaska if they wanted him to change the name back, and he literally couldn't understand why they said "no".

My understanding is that it is officially known in Alaska as Denali and has been for fifty years. It’s only under Obama that he made an executive order to change the name federally. But what kind of principle is this based on that he overrides the will of the state in which it is in? Yeah, none whatsoever and I’m sure right that it’s only because Obama did the executive order. Actually if you look at all the popular progressive channels, all you hear about is the need for a populist liberal candidate. But Trump obviously did not win in a pure 'democratic' sense, the popular vote was basically tied, and only a third of the electorate voted for him, so not even a near majority. So I think it's a stretch to say "voters chose Trump"--more accurately, Trump won by the rules in a quasi-democratic system.
I have zero doubt that the majority of Americans do not want Trump as President, and that number will likely soar in the next 100 days.
The big caveat is that Trump will do his best to create basically a state controlled media, and to persecute any opposition. If he succeeds, it will be as big a challenge to determine his true popularity as it is determining Putin's current popularity among Russians.
