Sad to say, this is exactly what people like Steve Bannon and crew have advocated for. Make the experience of illegal immigration so horrendous, people will think twice before trying it. Unless, I guess, they're people seeking employment on farms, in meat packing plants or the hospitality industry. Then they get the red carpet treatment.

To be fair to the Trump Administration, it was the Republican Party at large that smashed it up, not just the Trump Administration. For example, when nearly all the Republican Senators declared that they would destroy the deal in an open letter in 2015, that does spread the blame around more accurately than just focusing on Trump. It's strangely like the Republican Party *wants* more nuclear proliferation, so they can manipulate and scare those who have a poor grasp of cause and effect into supporting them.
