Trump's Second Term

Nasa’s top climate and space monitoring lab, called the Goddard Institute for Space Studies (Giss), has been housed in six floors of a leased building owned by Columbia University on Manhattan’s Upper West Side since 1966.

Since then, it has launched the career of a Nobel prize winner, aided missions to Venus and Jupiter, mapped the Milky Way and alerted the world to global heating by creating one of the first climate models. The climate model ran on an IBM computer, the fastest in the world in the 1970s and so gargantuan it took up the entire second floor.
But this storied history has meant little to the Trump administration, which is ending the lab’s lease on 31 May, releasing 130 staff to work from home with an uncertain future ahead. Donald Trump, who has called climate science “◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊” and a “giant hoax” in the past, wants to slash Nasa’s Earth science budget in half.

“They are trying to kill the messenger with the bad news, it’s crazy,” said Dr James Hansen, known as the godfather of climate science and previously director of Giss for more than 30 years.

The Guardian talked to Hansen, who was wearing a trademark felt fedora, as he tackled a plate of eggs and bacon at Tom’s Restaurant, which sits below the Giss office. The eggs, as well as some pancakes for your Guardian reporter, were ordered at the barked behest of the manager: “$12 minimum on food! $12! Each!”

The diner is famous – its neon-lit exterior regularly appeared on Seinfeld (photos of Jerry, Kramer and Elaine, some signed, adorn the walls inside) and it inspired Suzanne Vega’s 1980s song Tom’s Diner and so is now regularly thronged by tourists as well as Columbia students, though perhaps less so by Giss staff.

Mar a Lago can't become just Mar fast enough.

The Environmental Protection Agency has drafted a plan to eliminate all limits on greenhouse gases from coal and gas-fired power plants in the U.S., according to internal agency documents reviewed by The New York Times.
It is called the Environmental Protection Agency, isn't it?

Felon Trump gives uninspiring speech to grads.
Typical garbage from the draft dodger and 34-time convicted felon; it's all about him! He forgot to remind them not to be losers and get killed or captured!

Trump calls his own foreign aid cuts at USAID 'devastating'

:talk034:

Going beyond that, I suppose I should note that this rather sounds like a suggestion for China to step in and take over, which could likely quickly cement China's influence into the #1 spot. USAID was one of the big things that countered the darker perceptions of the US, in practice, and taking over would likely do much the same for China.
It shows that he really doesn't understand what USAID was really for. US farmers got subsidized as the government bought up food they couldn't otherwise sell, US suppliers of other items used for aid likewise got a chunk of taxpayer money and the countries that received the aid were, if not necessarily grateful, more inclined to side with the USA over global political rivals. The last thing any US President should want is another country replacing USAID.

Trump is a joke . . . no ◊◊◊◊ Sherlock.

A discussion on CNN's "Table for Five" about Donald Trump's ambush of South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa in the Oval Office this week led one conservative contributor to note the president biggest problem with world leaders. With CNN's Sara Sidner filling in for regular host Abby Phillip, conservative S.E. Cupp stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin considers himself lucky that his adversary is Trump. Donald Trump, just to psychologize this a little bit, Donald Trump desperately wants the respect of world leaders," she told the panel. "He doesn't have it, that is so obvious."

"Putin can't believe his luck that he got such a gullible counterpart in America," she continued. "He [Trump] has not been able to end that war on day one, he has not been able to push for peace in Gaza. the EU countries are ignoring his tariff threat because they're like, 'Well, we'll just wait, we'll just wait him out.'"

"He desperately wants the respect, and I think that's why he resorts to some of these bullying antics in the Oval Office, because the only way he can get it is through strong-arming," she added. "They don't respect him, they think he's a joke. They think he is the embodiment of America's ugliest stereotypes."

Trump the Rorschach test/perfect saleman:
He contnues:
Want to believe Donald Trump hates immigrants as much as you do? His words give you something to hang your hat on.
Want to believe Trump is just being hyperbolic and isn't REALLY a racist? His tone gives you something to hang your hat on.
He is like a human Rorschach test, allowing you to either take him at face value or not, depending on what you want to believe.

Thoughts?
Trampy doesn't understand what he is saying.

I'm not sure I agree with her that the reason "he resorts to some of these bullying antics in the Oval Office" with other countries' leaders is because he thinks that's how to get the respect from them he imagines he merits- after all, he could do the same thing in private sessions for that. I think he does it in front of cameras and a live audience because that sort of chest-pounding posturing is part of his expected show. Every time he does this sort of thing, and for every public speech he ever makes, there should be a disclaimer crawl on the screen saying "for entertainment purposes only."

Worse than that, WE are a joke since we elected him.

Do you have a mouse in your pocket?

And besides, only 30.5% of registered voters voted for the fat clown, and to me, that's a good approximation of the number of stupid people in the US, and that's why I call them maga weirdoes.

ETA: Of course, there is a cure for TDS (Trump's Damn Stupid). All anyone has to do is stop being stupid.

Presidents' commencement speeches to West Point graduates:

Barack Obama: "American influence is always stronger when we lead by example. We can’t exempt ourselves from the rules that apply to everybody else."

Joe Biden: "Ideas need defenders to make them real. That’s what you are all about. You must keep us free at this time like none before.”

Donald Trump: "A lot of trophy wives doesn’t work"
