Trump's Second Term

...

Trump calls his own foreign aid cuts at USAID 'devastating'

"It's devastating, and hopefully a lot of people are going to start spending a lot of money," Trump said in the Oval Office.

"I've talked to other nations. We want them to chip in and spend money too, and we've spent a lot. And it's a big - it's a tremendous problem going on in many countries. A lot of problems going on. The United States always gets the request for money. Nobody else helps."

:talk034:

Going beyond that, I suppose I should note that this rather sounds like a suggestion for China to step in and take over, which could likely quickly cement China's influence into the #1 spot. USAID was one of the big things that countered the darker perceptions of the US, in practice, and taking over would likely do much the same for China.

Trump the Rorschach test/perfect saleman:
He contnues:
Want to believe Donald Trump hates immigrants as much as you do? His words give you something to hang your hat on.
Want to believe Trump is just being hyperbolic and isn't REALLY a racist? His tone gives you something to hang your hat on.
He is like a human Rorschach test, allowing you to either take him at face value or not, depending on what you want to believe.

Thoughts?

I'm reminded of an old Trump-Hitler comparison that highlighted how comically inept Hitler actually was in the eyes of the people at the time, just like Trump. How the same forces used and propelled him to power. How disturbingly similar their personalities and tactics were. They're not completely the same, of course, but there is one particularly relevant thing to the quoted observation referred in that comparison. Hitler called himself an actor.

He was obsessed with the media and celebrity, and often seems to have viewed himself through that lens. He once described himself as "the greatest actor in Europe," and wrote to a friend, "I believe my life is the greatest novel in world history."

That sounds rather familiar here, does it not?

IMO, this should be a +1, Casper is a Trump supporter. Leopards need to eat.

A little unfair. As a non-citizen he could not vote, with his naturalization coming up, and being a non-citizen he could hardly be expected to post things that were anti-trump and not be deported. I'm pretty sure most green card holders and asylum seekers are busy posting comments in favour of Trump, and deleting any anti-Trump comments.

Also below:
I’ve had a similar theory: the fact that he lies about everything allows anyone who supports him to tell themselves that whatever offensive thing he just said was untrue. Conversely, anything he says that aligns with what the listener believes must be what he really means.

He’s the avatar of wish-fullfillment for the greedy, hateful, and stupid; everyone who buys in will end up betrayed in the end.

The posts featured in the video are from 2021 when Biden was POTUS. Are you asserting that poor old Casper is psychic?

Trump justifying aid cuts: "...The United States always gets the request for money. Nobody else helps."

That's a flat lie.

US foreign aid per capita is slightly below OECD average.

Norway EVACUATED one of its students at Harvard on Friday because the scholar union they belong to had concerns that they would be stripped of their passport and visa and be put in a detention center.

How effing great do we feel now America?

Effing great.

The sooner every foreigner is gone, the sooner all imports are eliminated and the USA can hide behind its borders the better as far as MAGA is concerned. The rest of the world doesn't exist except possibly as a market for US products and services.

Everyone is invited to his parade.
Donald J. Trump
@realDonald Trump
I am proud to announce that we will be hosting a magnificent Parade to honor the United States Army's 250th Birthday, on Saturday, June 14th, in Washington, D.C. For two and a half centuries, our brave soldiers have fought, bled, and died to keep us FREE, and now we will honor them with a wonderful Parade, one that is worthy of their service and sacrifice. Americans across the Nation are invited to attend. RSVP at america250.org/.

Dakotawillink: Listening to this commencement speech is embarrassing. Trump is rambling so bad, the people in the crowd at West Point don’t even know when they’re supposed to clap.

The US is going down like the Titanic, from slow at first to "we don't have enough lifeboats"! I don't think there's any stopping it since most Americans are either disengaged in politics or directly supporting the current regime. The Great Experiment is over, it ultimately failed because not enough had what it took to stand up against a tyrant.

On the one hand I'm inclined to disagree, thinking that it's not over yet, that the cult might still collapse and all fascist regimes collapse in on themselves eventually, etc. Then I remember that 40%+ of the US populace actively support the fascism and constitutional crisis the chubby little bastard is openly carrying out now, and that the US, even if it throws him out, will still be a dangerously dysfunctional and insular country with a poorly educated populace, mounting national debt, and huge internal issues with crime, gun violence, polarization, and a declining life expectancy. Thanks to Dump it's now also burned a lot of bridges with other countries, including allies, and abdicated her position as world leader in aid and political influence to (most likely) China. Also, the US already did throw out Dump, and even after a million Americans dead and a bloody coup, they just elected him again four years later, because the voters who showed up in record numbers to kick him out in 2020 apparently don't care about preserving democracy anymore.

I'm not saying the US is lost, but it's got a hell of a hole to dig itself out of. In fact I too am starting to think it'll have to go through some terrible process that'll probably involve death and suffering before re-emerging as something new. I don't wish for it, of course, but it's like watching, as some other poster said, a dear friend decide to go back to taking heroin and living on the streets after being clean for four years. You just know it'll get really bad before it (hopefully) gets better.
