The Library of Congress is not under the president’s control — it’s part of the legislative branch. Trump has no legal authority to fire the Librarian or appoint a replacement.

The result: two Trump-aligned officials tried to assume control Monday and were immediately shown the door.

Are these patriotic controllers unaware of their job's statutory retirement age?

Is there an army of patriotic octogenarian former air traffic controllers eager to come back to work and show these young 'uns how it's done? Just turn them headphones up a tad louder, sonny. No, bit louder than that. Now, where are my glasses? On my head? Thanks.

This whole Library of Congress and Copyright Office fiasco (orchestrated by the fat clown) is disconcerting to me.

I know it sounds like I'm being selfish, but I just sent in a Copyright Application three weeks ago for my latest novel (sixth in the series), and I hope this doesn't delay my certificate---or whatever it's called.

It's also a lot more "woke" than most novels, especially with a couple gay characters (who want to get married) and a famous lawyer who likes to wear dresses.

This may not affect my application at all, but it still worries me.


P.S. It takes place in 2016, and the main character actually wonders why a comedian (the fat clown) is running for POTUS. My newest novel (seventh in the same series) actually takes place during the election of that year, so I'm going to have a lot of fun with that. If I disappear, you'll know thy.

Explanation of what might be going on there, involved reading but worth it if you are curious:

For all the chaos of the Trump term, after some initial missteps, Trump has preceded relentlessly to use presidential firings to remap government agencies over which the Executive is supposed to have limited or no influence. There has been a certain logical progression. Trump started with agencies entirely within the Executive (like USAID), then proceeded to boards and agencies designed to be independent (starting with the Special Counsel and Merit Systems Protection Board, effectively stripping federal employees of key protections, then moving onto the Federal Elections Commission, the Consumer Financial Protection Board, and the Federal Trade Commission, and more recently the Consumer Product Safety Commission). DOGE then started swallowing up independent agencies, like the US African Development Foundation and the Institute for Peace, before moving onto Radio Free Europe and the Postal Service.

Those efforts are all stuck in various stages of legal challenges. Their takeover may not succeed.

But after moving through independent agencies, Trump has turned to an agency of Congress, the Library of Congress, all without even telling Republicans he was coming.

Most of them were purged by Ray-Gun, so I wouldn't think so.
 
So, what new pomp and glitter is Trump going to demand when he gets back from his trip? Apparently horses and "golden swords" and a McDonald's food truck were involved. I wonder if the Army can get a few thousand golden swords for his upcoming birthday tribute parade?
