Trump's Second Term

Marj seems very pissed off with Donald and his government according to her epic rant!

When you've lost Marjorie you've lost all the lunatics.

She "represents the base" i.e. the absolute lowest point.

So she's bound to get jealously protective of that position when official White House communications consist of trolling memes. Representing the utter nadir of civilization is her gig buddy, and you'd better not forget it.

Oh yes, the base of the cess pit, for the most hardcore supporters.

How has this managed to fly under the radar here? Executive order:

Ending Taxpayer Subsidization Of Biased Media

Executive Order said:
National Public Radio (NPR) and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) receive taxpayer funds through the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). Unlike in 1967, when the CPB was established, today the media landscape is filled with abundant, diverse, and innovative news options. Government funding of news media in this environment is not only outdated and unnecessary but corrosive to the appearance of journalistic independence.
...
The CPB fails to abide by these principles to the extent it subsidizes NPR and PBS. Which viewpoints NPR and PBS promote does not matter. What does matter is that neither entity presents a fair, accurate, or unbiased portrayal of current events to taxpaying citizens.

I therefore instruct the CPB Board of Directors (CPB Board) and all executive departments and agencies (agencies) to cease Federal funding for NPR and PBS.

Corporation for Public Broadcasting says Trump cannot order where and how the funds are spent:
Trump says he's ending federal funding for NPR and PBS. They say he can't.
Corporation for Public Broadcasting said:
It is not clear that the president has the authority to make such orders to CPB under the law.

PBS President and CEO Paula Kerger called it a "blatantly unlawful Executive Order, issued in the middle of the night."
...
"CPB is not a federal executive agency subject to the President's authority," the corporation wrote in a statement issued Friday morning. "Congress directly authorized and funded CPB to be a private nonprofit corporation wholly independent of the federal government."

The CPB noted that the statute Congress passed to create it "expressly forbade 'any department, agency, officer, or employee of the United States to exercise any direction, supervision, or control over educational television or radio broadcasting, or over [CPB] or any of its grantees or contractors."

Seems Trump's incoherent and incompetent backroom boys haven't actually done the prior study necessary to write up Donny's executive missives. Again. Just relying on their own propaganda is not doing themselves any favours. Perhaps the best response would be:

"Mr President, this is a Wendy's..."

I'm very heartened to hear this bit of cultural vandalism is being challenged as overreach. I winced when I read the part of the XO implying having government funded broadcasting looks like its news output might be biased in favour of the government, when clearly it's not true so in fact he's trying to shut it down because he can't tell it what to say.

It's supposed to protect against the populist. The culture wars have come to give the Republicans the lead. Poor people hate trans people more than they want a better life for themselves,
Government in the US was always of the rich, for the rich and by the rich. They kept every corruption in the UK apart from monarchy and never tried to rid themselve of them, and on top invented many new corruptions of their own.

Ron Johnson downplays Milwaukee closing at least 9 schools because students have elevated blood lead levels: "I wouldn't think this is something that would require federal government involvement. When you have a budget now that's $7t large, having only been $4.4t large in 2019, and you try to pare back govt, there are some things you're going to have to reverse ... local and state officials ought to be able to handle this"

Will the draft-dodging generalissimo be wearing a uniform?

President Donald Trump told NBC News he plans to hold several events to celebrate U.S. military victories this year, including a “big, beautiful” military parade in Washington, D.C., to commemorate Flag Day, which also happens to fall on his birthday.

“My birthday happens to be on Flag Day,” Trump told NBC News’ “Meet the Press” moderator Kristen Welker in a wide-ranging interview at Mar-a-Lago that aired on Sunday. “I view it for Flag Day, not necessarily my birthday. Somebody put it together. But no, I think we’re going to do something on June 14 maybe or somewhere around there. But I think June 14. It’s a very important day.”

The parade won’t be cheap.

Defense officials told NBC News that the estimated cost could be as high as $45 million, with individual Army units ultimately bearing the cost of the parade — which could potentially impact funds used for training.

Trump said it would be worth it.
“Peanuts compared to the value of doing it,” Trump said of the cost. “We have the greatest missiles in the world. We have the greatest submarines in the world. We have the greatest army tanks in the world. We have the greatest weapons in the world. And we’re going to celebrate it.”

The event, which will also mark the Army’s 250th birthday, is expected to include 6,600 soldiers, an Army spokesman said.

Defense officials familiar with the planning said it is also expected to feature more than 50 aircraft and 150 military vehicles, which could include wheeled vehicles such as Humvees and trucks, and so-called tracked vehicles, like tanks.
My favorite thing is the submarines; can't wait to see them rolling down the street.
