Trump's Second Term

Posted in the Ukraine thread but fits here as well.

You would think the deal between USA and Ukraine would have been trumpeted by Trump with more volume than it has after all it was how he was going to end the war.

Mind, it's not the deal he first claimed.

First Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko listed its provisions as

A reconstruction investment fund to help attract Western investment in Ukrainian projects in minerals, oil and gas.

Resources will remain the property of Ukraine, and Kyiv will choose where to do the extracting.

For the first 10 years of the deal, the money will go to the reconstruction of Ukraine.

The partnership will be equal, on a 50/50 basis, has no debt obligation to the US.

The US will play a role in helping to attract investment and technology to the projects in Ukraine.

USA will contribute new assistance to Kyiv, which may include, for example, air defence systems.

In my experience anything appealing to common sense is a bad idea. If it was a good idea they'd promote it on its merits instead.

I chalk it up to empty homeschooling blackboards full of mayo stains and bullet holes. But perhaps there is a simpler answer: If pride comes before a fall, then criminally false virtue signalling comes before a face-smashing pratfall.
