Trump's Second Term

A textbook case of the Cure being worse then the Disease.
And when the "disease" was only ever, at worst, a hangnail needing a bandage, it's a little rich to claim that the patient is recovering nicely from the major heart surgery some idiot doctor decided was necessary to cure it and then performed without even the benefit of anesthesia.

The story is that Pres. Trump inherited a very bad economy, a patient that was very sick. The market behavior is simply the symptom of that illness that Joe Biden caused. What's that term where everyone knows that someone is lying but we all just agree to pretend like it's the truth?

Yeah, I got something for you to suck pal, right here!
I think we can all be comforted by the fact that Vance, and Trump on his golf course, won't ever be incommoded by having to live paycheck to paycheck, and aren't therefore constrained by the concept. And I'm sure the fact that, even if the tariffs work the way they claim they will (in, say, two years), people like them will be the ones who reap the profit had nothing at all to do with their plan.

Didn’t he saying that the operation was a SUCCESS and that the patient was HEALING!?
Words to that approximate effect, yes. He likened the Biden economy to a sick patient and said that "liberation day" was the operation to save it, and promised that it's going to be a healthy recovery.

I dread to imagine what things will be like when he opens Trump Hospital.
They won't take Medicare or Medicaid. That's for sure.

I don't think we can put too much hope in elections, he's dismantling democracy too quickly and the midterms aren't until 2026. Plus, he's already started to circumvent Congress anyway. Also not sure if his people are going to have an 'are we the baddies' moment...

'Why Hitler salutes, though?'

...So I'm more holding out hope for peaceful demonstrations, general strikes, and the 3.5% rule, with a trickle of defectors from the cult helping to boost those numbers. Dump is crashing the economy early, where Hitler used various means to manipulate his populace into thinking the economy was going great. Also, Hitler, as we know, initially made sure to reward those who voted for him. Not so with the leopards.

Let's compare again to the worst day's in DJIA history.

In terms of raw points, this was the third largest one-day loss ever. Nine of the top ten and 13 of the top twenty came under Trump.

In terms of percentage, today was not in the top 20, but we're getting closer. We'll have to go worse than -7.13% to get there.

Remember when so much of the opposition to gay marriage revolved around the idea that treating gay people equally somehow robbed straight marriage of its meaning?
Indeed, the argument they literally took to court was that marriage as an institution was sullied by letting "those people" participate in it. It was pure animus, and they were wholly shattered by the notion that the California judge who first ruled on that argument didn't buy it. The ruling said, "No, the institution is strengthened by allowing more people to participate in it." It was a completely foreign idea to them that gay people were just as deserving as straight people, and that these desserts are not some sort of scarce quantity that has to be carefully apportioned. Trumpists can't fathom a world where they don't get to deny something to someone they consider inherently unworthy.

We actually studied this in business in the context of handing out raises. A situation where everyone gets a substantial raise across the board creates less satisfaction than a situation in which some got a modest raise and others got no raise. The modest raise-winners were more satisfied because they got something that was denied to others. Happiness for some is priority based. You don't mind having your face eaten as long as the disfavored people get their faces eaten more.

Trump reposts a video claiming he's "purposely CRASHING the market"

...WTF?

I mean, I...

...If I'm being accused of a massive, global, stock market manipulation, I would like to think I would not go out of my way to draw attention to the accusation.

There is no plan. Trump is just an idiot. There is no eleventy-dimensional chess, no "real" agenda. Just an idiot with millions of followers who refuse to accept the truth.

I wish I could be as optimistic about MAGA turning on the leopards eating their faces, but I'm not. Trump's basic ideology is one they share- that every interaction is a zero-sum competition where any gain by any other side is a loss for theirs, and there can be no mutual gains, only total victories and complete defeats. Remember when so much of the opposition to gay marriage revolved around the idea that treating gay people equally somehow robbed straight marriage of its meaning? Or when "Black Lives Matter" was recast as a claim that white lives did not? These are largely the same people, still clinging to the notion that they are victims of evil "others" whose intent is to make them lesser as the necessary cost of elevating the unworthy - and they won't, in their search for someone to blame, turn on the guy who feeds (and feeds on) their sense of illusory loss. He can, and will, continue to eat their faces for as long as they need to believe that it's really somebody else's teeth on their throats than one of their own.
You don't need MAGA to turn, just the swing voters; they are the ones who gave Trump the win.

Verdict on the China's retaliatory tariffs.

THIS.
Trump is not smart enough to be behind some massive evil strategy.
I also think there is too much Trump in invincible and there is nothing that can be done to fight him nonsense around here.

It;s the swing voters who hold the balance of power; and they are having buyer's regret.
But forget general strikes. I just don't see that happening
And I strngly diagree about electins being useless.
If they are. then armed resistence in the only realistic path, as much as that probably upsets some of the pacifists here.
