Trump's Second Term

It's a nice comparison picture at the link, but when your post is that barebones, the point doesn't get through at all without clicking on the link.
I was on my phone. Yes, they get some ad money from you clicking. But they probably get it from just me embedding a link. It's not exactly ads, it is just selling "attention":
Threads, the social media app developed by Meta, makes money through a variety of methods, including commission-based sales and paying influencers.

BARTIROMO: How do you know the Chinese are not gonna take advantage and exploit your gold cards?

TRUMP: They may. They may.

They can’t make up their minds what the tariff war is actually about.

Is it a drugs war or is it trade?

How many gold cards sold now? How long is it good for? There is some renewal process for green cards every 10 years. It requires no interrogation. Bureaucratic.

Lutnick on tariffs: "If fentanyl ends, I think these will come off. But if fentanyl does not end, or he's uncertain about it, they will stay this way until he is comfortable. This is black and white."

Trump: "We have a lot of law firms that we're going to be going after, because they were very dishonest people. They were very, very dishonest. We have a lot of law firms that we're going after."

It's not "the economy, stupid". It's not even "Make America Great Again". It's "going after" everyone who crossed him.

The entire focus of Trump's administration is single-mindedly dedicated to going after people he wants to hurt, and that's the only thing he cares about.

WELKER: The CEOs of Target and Best Buy this week warned that they will have to increase prices as a result of tariffs. Do you acknowledge that prices will go up for consumers?

LUTNICK: Donald Trump is going to try to balance the budget ... yes, some products that are made foreign might be more expensive

Does Grok think that _____ is a Russian asset? An Arizona Republic reporter put it to the test.
According to the AI chatbot called Grok, which was developed by Elon Musk’s company xAI, there is a “75-85% likelihood” that the person who delivered the State of the Union address on Tuesday night is a “Putin-compromised” Russian asset.

To me, it looks more like he's just wearing less make up to pretty himself up.
That was kind of my point. He's not keeping up his physical appearance, which, we all know, is VERY important to trump. How come, what is happening? "Poor thing. She's distracted."

Why would he be 'distracted?' Look at the Wall Street Journal op-ed of a day or two ago that takes trump to task over the tariffs. Not only will they probably be counter-productive -- effecting hundreds of millions of people, thousands of businesses that employ millions of people -- trump probably doesn't have legal authority to do it.
The 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) permits the executive branch to investigate, block, prohibit or regulate any imports and exports with foreign countries in the case of an “unusual or extraordinary threat"..."He’s treating the North American economy as a personal plaything, as markets gyrate with each presidential whim,” the [Journal] board wrote. “It’s doubtful Mr. Trump even has the power to impose these tariffs, and we hope his afflatus gets a legal challenge.” Wall Street Journal article via The Hill article link

Pretty clear trump needs Congressional authorization to impose the sweeping tariffs he has ordered. It is believed his emphasis on fentanyl pouring across the border from Canada and killing so many Americans is his way of trying to do an end run around Congress and establish an emergency of the kind that allows unilateral action by the president under the IEEPA. But!

The Journal noted, the "IEEPA doesn’t clearly authorize tariffs.

But if* border seizures are any indication of the relative scale of smuggling, the amount of fentanyl coming across the Canadian border is tiny; less than a half of one percent of the amount coming across the Mexican border. The figures posted <somewhere on this forum> were around 10 tons seized on the Mexican border in a year versus less than 50 pounds on the Canadian border. A large truckload versus an amount you could literally pick up with one hand. So, why exactly is Canada the emergency, Mr President?

* And if they aren't then what figures do justify Trump's claimed emergency on the Canadian border?

It's nothing to do with the figures, Trump wants Canada, he doesn't give a ◊◊◊◊ about Mexico.

The great irony is, there are more drugs being smuggled INTO Canada FROM the US then are being smuggled OUT OF Canada INTO the US. Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reports:
There's been an influx of illegal American drugs and guns, which experts and law enforcement say are fuelling crime, death and addiction on this side of the border, too. CBSA is seizing many more drugs, prohibited weapons and firearms than they were just two years ago, according to figures compiled by the border agency and shared with CBC News. In fact, when looking at weight alone, Canadian officials seized more illegal drugs coming from the U.S. last year than what the Americans captured on their side of the 49th parallel. CBC article link

What is the MAGAMutt answer? Probably, Canadian Broadcasting is reporting FAKE NEWS and their top people should be put in jail.
