Trump's Second Term

Anybody see this suggestion of a $5000 check to taxpayers? It's a brilliant idea to bring home just how much DOGE has cut the cost of the federal government. There's just one teeny little problem; it's bound to lead to another round of inflation.

Promotion by who?
"Hello Elon. At work, I shopped for a new Cybertruck and asked friends on X of how to get a good deal, but not a great deal, because Tesla should be paid premium for the wonderful product that they make. After that, I got onto my fake bluesky account and trolled libs about how pathetic they are for wanting a democracy by the people for the people. For lunch, I had some face of my liberal co-workers, who I'll provide a list for. Their liberal tears were good for washing it down. After lunch, I watched Fox News while scanning X for any real news. Fox has a few dissenters that give fake news these days. After work, I go to a meeting of like-minded individuals where we sometimes round up the brown people and call ICE to pick them up. "

This individual is getting promoted to head of whatever department he works for, by Elon, proxy of Trump.

This payout to the public worked for GW, so it may work for Trump. It's not to help the economy and is purely to bring up sentiment from the public. Give people $5K each while taxing them an extra $10K on the back-end. They know people, in general, do not have the foresite to see past the money that is in front of them.

Greed and power. Unlike most people, money isn't a necessity to pay bills, eat and have shelter. To Musk and other billionaires, money is more like points in the "game of life" and he who has the most money, wins.
Wins what though? That's why I think you have to look at it more deeply at a psychological level, the element of being 'compelled' means they have an underlying *need* to be comforted by accumulating and controlling the most wealth and power. At the most extreme level, if you believe the world/people/agencies are a threat to your ego, by controlling it all, that eliminates the threat. So, it is fundamentally a defense mechanism by people who are deeply wounded (usually by childhood trauma) That doesn't excuse their evil, no more than being an alcoholic excuses you from drunk driving.

I am sure it would buy Trump a fair amount of short-term goodwill, but it would be bound to backfire by the 2026 midterms. Trump already has only a slender majority in the House and if he loses that he will be unable to do much legislatively.

Basically it's the promise of a future bribe to look the other way while they loot the government now.

Also, it's very possible that many of them are afraid of their personal safety if they take on the king. MAGA/Nazi have threatened death to those who don't fall in line, and have physically attacked opposition.
I remember Robert Reich writing about a GOP politician who expressed his fear of the "crazy" Trump followers. I can't find it now but I think it was on Twitter to which I no longer have access.

Noe existent and dead people are being used to collect pay checks, that's why his email is important.
Sure, Jan. There are more effective ways of determining whether someone is alive than seeing whether they answer a mass threatening email from some guy.

I've read that when he took over Twitter one of Muck's great paranoias was that there were "ghost employees" that were on the books drawing salaries but not actually real employees.
Dead people voting. Dead people collecting social security. Dead people drawing paychecks. There's a real obsession going on there.

Of course a con man and cheater suspects others of doing the things he does himself.
Spot on. Musk is supposedly the head of several successful companies. Yet now he can seem to spend all this time pretending to be a government officer while eking billion-dollar salaries from the companies he's supposed to be leading. Con artists excuse their immoral behavior by pretending everyone is just as ill-intentioned as they are.

What even compels people to hoard that much money.

This comes closest to what I was thinking. For most people, how much money they have or can get is a realistic measure of what they can afford to buy; for folks like Musk/Trump, it's a measure of their idealized self-worth, and, by comparison, how much (or, more accurately, how little) people who don't have as much are worth. It's a definition, a quality, not a quantity at all.

And here is the clear distinction between a true leader and the POS that is Trump: Zelensky offers to resign in exchange for peace for Ukraine.
If Trump were asked to resign to heal the division in the U.S., it is obvious how he would respond: "There would be no U.S. without me, your God-given savior"
Zelensky on Peace

Obviously they're afraid of zombies making an honest living.

A monumental man. Every time he shows how noble and great he is, I feel incredibly bad as a Norwegian, European, and Westerner for letting them down. They could've won the war handily and we slow-walked our support.

Dead person in the Oval Office...
Will Dump or Musk be stabbed in the back first? I predict one of them won't live to see 2028...

It's rather more like "L'etat, c'est moi!" isn't it? The king has primacy over parliament. He's saying Trump is absolute monarch.

While I don't see that it's really fascism, yes it absolutely is the antithesis of "of the people, by the people, for the people".
Exactly. Posobiec's framing is a contradiction in terms. The Constitution is the embodiment of the principle that the people are the basis of government, and that no one man can be any such embodiment. It is, after all, what the term "republic" literally means.
jreakle
Posobiec: Trump can't violate the Constitution because "Trump is the living embodiment of the American Constitution."This is just textbook fascism. It is antithetical to everything our Founders fought for.
I kind of miss the days when the right's response to any threats to democracy was the hoary and superficial "we live in a republic, not a democracy," as if there just was not enough room in their minds for the idea that we could actually be both. Now, it seems, with folks like Posobiec, the mantra has evolved naturally into the suggestion that we are neither. All hail the bloated embodiment!

It’s one of the reasons the “fat cats” want everyone back in the office, they know that when they are “working from home” they are pissing around so they think other people are just like them.
