Hundreds of thousands of federal workers have little more than 48 hours to explain what they accomplished over the last week as part of billionaire Elon Musk’s crusade to slash what he describes as “waste everywhere” in the federal government.

Musk, who serves as President Donald Trump’s cost-cutting chief, teased the extraordinary request on his social media network on Saturday.

“Consistent with President @realDonaldTrump’s instructions, all federal employees will shortly receive an email requesting to understand what they got done last week,” Musk posted on X, which he owns. “Failure to respond will be taken as a resignation.”

Shortly afterward, federal employees received a three-line email with this instruction: “Please reply to this email with approx. 5 bullets of what you accomplished last week and cc your manager.”

The deadline to respond is Monday at 11:59 p.m.

Trump and Musk are really out of touch with their employees. What makes them think that every federal employee has access to an official e-mail account that would receive that message? When I worked in the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, there were lots of employees without access to the government intranet or email and had to rely on their supervisors to get that information by word of mouth or printed out.

It seem this message went out yesterday (Friday), so this must mean that those who are on vacation and out of reach, or hospitalized with illnesses or injuries are ◊◊◊◊ out of luck if they cannot reply by midnight on Monday??

There are plenty of federal employees with security clearances which will limit the description of what they did last week to "I did classified stuff last week". Trump made it clear a little while ago that this will not allow people to keep their jobs when he fired nuclear safety workers with security clearances.

Unfortunately, this is the kind of ◊◊◊◊ that Americans are going to have to go through before they will rise up and throw off these ◊◊◊◊gibbons! Only when millions of MAGAts are unemployed, are dying due to lack of medical care, are hungry and unable to put food on the table, are losing their homes and apartments, are freezing, are unable to get help after a natural disaster, only then can there be a real revolution. That revolution has to come from the MAGAts themselves, when they finally realize how they've been used and sold out by their King to the oligarchs, the Chinese, the Russians, the Saudis, etc.

What might trigger it is hurricane season. It could be a real ◊◊◊◊show.

That's an interesting thesis of the Maggats being the real revolution...it would come down to who has the superior delusion: would Trump and his cronies be so full of themselves that they are unable to either notice or react to a growing movement from within the cult to dislodge them? Or would the Maga base be so stupid that even as they starve and die, they continue to pledge allegiance to their perceived savior? I think it will be some combo of the two, and whichever force is the most delusional or the most violent will win out.

This is my preferred outcome. I spent half my working life as a public servant, and Australian public services have been traditionally and proudly independent. This is exactly the response I would have expected from public service management.
