I may be over sensitive because like Kemi, I was born here because my parents (previously British because of the Empire, then no longer entitled to citizenship), were working in the UK for the NHS. So if Kemi should be deported, so should I. As would my partner, whose parents are only here because of the kinder transport. Then there are the people who only came over because of anti-Protestant wars (Huguenots) or were Norman invaders, or Viking boat people, or Anglo-Saxon boat people ...

I never meant to imply that and I hope you'll accept that I'm sorry if you found it offensive and it was not my intention. My objection to Badenoch is not her heritage, it's the damage she's doing now, including that she, and other right wing children of immigrants like Braverman and Patel are making life harder for the immigrant people this country needs and making us all less safe by legitimising false arguments that promote division in this country. In a wider view she also plays politics when (at it's rare best) Parliament might unite in the national interest in circumstances like Trump's hostility or rioting.

I do understand where you come from.

But non-white people can be right wing too1

I used to do clinics for asylum seekers, I vividly remember one interpreter ( a communist who had been imprisoned and tortured* prior to escaping to and getting asylum in the UK), saying to me after a review. "He was never a member of the party, he never was under threat, he destroys the asylum system for those who need it" I was really struck by the anger from someone who needed asylum, towards someone who they felt was exploiting the system.

*I only know this second hand from her friends who told me about her arrest and torture..

In something only indirectly related to the Trump Administration, it seems that the ruling for the man who murdered a Democratic lawmaker, his wife, and sought to murder more lawmakers and their families last year has happened finally. Yes, he was very unsurprisingly a radicalized by right-wing deceit guy. Former Christian missionary, no less.

Boelter pleaded guilty so that federal prosecutors would not seek the death penalty; instead, he agreed to serve two consecutive life sentences, plus 40 years.
