Dangerous thing about Iran mining the straits is you don't need hi tech warships to do it. You can convert a small friether or even a fishing boat to carry and drop mines.

At the end of last year, the US got rid of its minesweepers, claiming that they can fit mine detection and destroying packages on any coastal ship.
Never tested in combat.
