Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker said this morning that trump’s “deranged” depiction of Chicago as a “hellhole” and a “warzone” is “just complete B.S.” That may not matter. The concern is that trump and his minions keep harping on that in order to invoke the Insurrection Act. It doesn't have to be true, trump and the Republicans just need a segment of the public and the courts to be willing to accept it as true.

The Insurrection Act of 1807 is the U.S. federal law that empowers the president of the United States to nationally deploy the U.S. military and to federalize the National Guard units of the individual states in specific circumstances, such as the suppression of civil disorder, of insurrection, and of armed rebellion against the federal government of the U.S. The Insurrection Act provides a statutory exception to the Posse Comitatus Act (1878) that limits the president's deploying the U.S. military to enforce either civil law or criminal law within the United States.

It wouldn't matter what started the fire if a gas line or gas tank went up, maybe even a gas tank on a barbecue stored next to out under the house could have gone up. It should be clear to the fire investigators where and how it started, arson seems likely to me but there's no point speculating yet.

ICE is choosing to be very bad neighbors even to the actual law enforcement and, well...

Chicago Police Superintendent Larry Snelling told reporters Monday that 27 of his police officers were hit by tear gas that had been deployed by federal immigration agents Saturday on the city’s South Side.

The agents had been called to the area after protesters clashed with federal immigration operations.

“They did not have the equipment to fight off chemical agents, and they were affected by it,” Snelling said of the officers.

Broadview Police Chief Thomas Mills told CBS News that multiple officers responded to a call about someone trying to break into the gate of an ICE facility on Thursday. When they arrived, they just saw a CBS News cameraman and security guard taking pictures.

“It’s disturbing. It’s ridiculous,” Mills said.

“It sure doesn’t look like anyone’s forcing anything in any fence over here,” a Broadview officer said in bodycam footage obtained by CBS News.

I’m not sure why people keep wondering where trvmp has disappeared to when it is painfully obvious: he’s at Walter Reed getting pumped full of meds and IVs. It’s medical and not because of the shutdown backlash. He may even be getting dialysis for renal failure due to the diuretics. It’s the beginning of the end.
