Trump's Second Term

Looks like it's goodbye to NATO

"We're protecting them. They're not protecting us. We're protecting them so I don't think we should be spending. I'm not sure we should be spending anything."

Trump has imposed a communications blackout across America's federal health agencies, including the CDC, FDA, HHS, and NIH.

They have been instructed to halt all external communications, such as publishing scientific reports, updating websites, and issuing health advisories.

The directive was issued suddenly and without prior notice.
Where are his "free speech absolutists" now?

Trump says he's open to meeting J6 criminals he pardoned, including some who beat cops: "What they did is they were protesting a crooked election. People understand that also. And they were treated very badly."

Also on interest rates and why the Fed should listen to him: "I think I know interest rates much better than they do."

The Unconditional Discharge doesn't understand friends and allies. Doesn't even have a concept of an understanding. But he does understand "buying protection" from standover merchants...

There is a report that the CIA has cancelled any participation in Black History Month or Women's History Month programs. Also, all employees who were involved in DEI must be fired rather than re-assigned.

Who had "full-throated bigotry" on their Bingo cards? Oh, that's right—everyone.

"Obviously we'll appeal it" -- Trump on a court striking down his birthright citizenship EO

Of course he will, that's the plan. He knows the SCOTUS will give it to him.
If they rule against him, he'll just ignore it just like he is with the TikTok ban.

There's going to be hundreds of thousands of unemployed public service folks shortly. King Felonious' court will just have to lie about the workforce participation numbers when that happens. No biggie.

The one issue I might have to eat crow on is the war in Ukraine.. Prior to the election I was convinced (along with most) that Ukraine would be quickly sacrificed to Putin by 'Putin's puppet'--since that was basically one of the things Trump ran on in the campaign, given that his base insisted Russia was in the right by defending themselves against the corrupt Ukrainian Nazis...

But seeing the show unfold, with Putin continuing to mock Trump and Trump making threats if Russia doesn't cut a deal to end the war, I'm reconsidering my prediction. Trump obviously feels threatened by Putin and wants to be seen as stronger and more important than Putin on the world stage. This is typical narcissistic behavior. So, he may very well dig in and support Zelensky, who he has no reason to be threatened by,
His sycophants will gaslight us and claim they supported Ukraine all along, or they will simply be silent once it becomes clear that it was just another broken promise to them by Trump.

i agree he wants to be seen that way. but he’s not actually a strong leader. so he will acquiesce

I am honestly unsure. Various Russians have said negative stuff about Trump, and Trump is perfectly willing to base foreign policy on personal slights to himself. Add in the fact that Russia has not been able to decisively beat Ukraine, and that makes Putin look "weak" to Trumps limited understanding.

In his mind, the US doesn't really have any skin in the game as there are not really any US troops there, and the "money" that we are sending to Ukraine is mostly in the form of US manufactured weapons. Since he can be bribed by defense contractors into continuing, I would not be surprised to see things in Ukraine continue for a while.

Good grief, I had forgotten about Susan Collins and her memetic "concerned" reactions to trump's antics the first time around. Currently she's concerned about Hegseth's nomination.
I bet that she's so concerned that she won't sleep well the night before she votes to confirm him.

One of my high school friends works in the Census Bureau. This morning a bunch of his co-workers who had been "hired under DEI directives" were abruptly put on paid leave, pending a decision about whether they could keep their jobs. He was not happy about having so many competent people yanked out of his office.

Tell your friend not to worry. The Trump administration will be filling those positions with alcoholic sexual abusers.
