Cont: Trump’s Coup - Part 2

Yes. There are less safe seats now than before Trump.

Herein lies the big question for both sides - what happens in the general election when Trump isn't on the ticket? Does the anti-Trump vote drop off significantly while the pro-Trump voters continue to turnout if the candidate supports Trump? Does the pro-Trump vote drop off without him on the ticket while the anti-Trump voters have a longer memory and keep turning out? Do they cancel each other out?

This account of a tumultuous White House meeting literally screams out for a dramatization by Aaron Sorkin:

You were ninja'd on that but it's worth repeating.
This comment from Powell about the article is simply awesome. (My bold)
[Note: In response to a request for comment, Powell said in an emailed statement to Axios: “I will not publicly discuss my private meetings with the President of the United States. I believe those meetings are privileged and confidential under executive privilege and under rules of the legal profession. I would caution the readers to view mainstream media reports of any such conversations with a high degree of discernment and a healthy dose of skepticism.”]

...and yet President Trump got 74 million votes

If you're a Republican in a safe seat then it doesn't matter how small the party gets, the biggest risk to re-election is being primaried by a more rabid pro-Trump candidate. If you're a sitting GOP representative then cosying up to President Trump and his supporters makes all the sense in the world.

People shouldn't forget that a lot of these people aren't 'cosying' to Trump to get votes from the base, they are in the base.

"You're quitting! You're a quitter! You're not fighting!” he exploded at the senior adviser. Flynn then turned to the president, and implored: "Sir, we need fighters."

Finally Herschmann had enough. "Why the **** do you keep standing up and screaming at me?" he shot back at Flynn. "If you want to come over here, come over here. If not, sit your ass down." Flynn sat back down.

LMAO.

At one point, with Flynn shouting, Byrne raised his hand to talk. He stood up and turned around to face Herschmann. "You're a quitter," he said. "You've been interfering with everything. You've been cutting us off."

"Do you even know who the **** I am, you idiot?" Herschmann snapped back.

"Yeah, you're Patrick Cipollone," Byrne said.

"Wrong! Wrong, you idiot!

That was my favorite part! :D

Typical of T****: Let his underlings fight it out among themselves, then align with the eventual winner(s). And it looks like it is the Powell faction who threw the most impressive tantrum.

Donny is SO toast...

I could be rich if I'd been able to bet against all the people who have said on numerous occasions since 1929 that the Republican Party is dead. They're not going away. They'll still be here long after I'm dead. They'll still be here long after we're all dead.

Some things exists until they do not - usually to everyone's surprise.

Yes. There are less safe seats now than before Trump. Georgia isn't safe. Florida isn't safe. Texas isn't safe. North Carolina isn't safe. The voter suppression and election rigging is the only thing keeping some red states red and that won't hold as demographics keep changing.

All that means there is time limit for overthrowing democracy for far-rightwing authoritarian one party government.

Basically, things will escalate and get very, very ugly in few years.

I prefer rioters who *don't* get shot.

What jumps out at me but is not surprising is that no one in the meeting was even a little bit interested in actually following the will of the people. That you could have a meeting like that in the White House and what the voters wanted isn't even discussed show just how low the Republican party has sunk.

I forgot this gem of information about Patrick Byrne, batting for the Sidney Powell Qanon team.

"Byrne claims he’s been serving as a government informant, feeding information since 2015 to the “Men In Black,” as he puts it, on Maria Butina, a vivacious Russian grad student with whom he struck up a romantic relationship. She is currently serving an 18-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to conspiring to act as a foreign agent, in connection with her efforts to infiltrate conservative political circles before and after the 2016 presidential election."

I'm pretty sure that's where the Trump party was 4 years ago.

In all probability, not one word of that is true.
