Trump's Coup d'état.

It is so they can be used in places that use RCV/instant runoff.
Before this year I didn't know any states used that.

It wouldn't be needed in Georgia, would it? They did not have an instant runoff, just started over with new ballots.

In 2001 Gore added something like "We wish the new President the best." In 1961 Nixon gave a little speech about how presiding over the count of his own defeat demonstrated the stability of democracy in America and congratulated Kennedy and Johnson.

Hmmmm.....what would Donald Trump say?

Once again, thinking about Donald Trump has me wishing for the good old days when Richard Nixon was President ......or Vice President, in this case.

No one did before this year in any national races. A few places used it before this year for local competitions. Maine is the only state that used them this time.

If Georgia had instant runoff for the Senate races, there would be no runoff election.

You want the truth?! You can't handle the truth!!

Pence asks judge to reject Gohmert lawsuit

TheWashington Post

Apologies if this has already been discussed. Happy New Year Everyone!!!

I'm not really sure what this means. Gohmert suit is bizarre and meaningless. To begin with, a judge in Texas has no authority whatsoever on what happens during the Electoral vote count.

Who gives a rat's ass what this judge thinks is correct? It's not as if it makes an iota of difference. Pence is going to do what he's going to do and my guess is he's not going to do anything other than preside over the Senate. Keep in mind that as VP, Pence doesn't vote unless there is a tie and it's highly unlikely there will be a tie. He doesn't have to declare the winner either. Basically, he gavels the session into order, reads a few lines and later gavels it closed.

Pence is suing in court to have that stupid lawsite to force him to void the election thrown out of court.
Pence is part of the Deep State. Is there no end to his conspriacy?

i think Pence wants to distance himself from the insanity.

As a CNN commentator said the day the Supreme COurt threw out the Texas lawsuit "The Kraken has Kroaked".

Me too. I think he wants to appear dignified and Presidential. He is trying to carve out his own niche. Separate himself from Trump but saying nothing on the record against Trump.

He knows this is nutty and will go down to defeat. After the votes are objected to, my guess is that both houses of Congress will approve the votes.

Now my question is, will they object to Arizona, go into separate sessions, then Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin extending this out to ten hours or what?

If they continue this over and over again will there be motions to call the previous question and will they successfully cut off hours and hours of debate.

My guess is the Trumpsters will be doing a lot of rehearsed lying, so the Democrats need to plan for contingencies having well written speeches to demonstrate their positions and expose the GOP for encouraging this sort of thing.

A lot of what you see from politics,,on all sides...is more about symbolism and appreance then actually doing something.

Yes, but what are they symbolizing? It's not something they can win. In theory they could force the process to go on for days. How much symbolism are they going for?

The rules are I believe it takes a 2/3rds majority to call the previous question and end debate.

So while I think they might get away with this for one or 2 States for the full two hours of debate, my guess is people will get pretty tired of the show and it will see a forced ending.

Quiz of the day.
Who said to his flock: "we're being asked to overturn the results after a guy didn't get as many electoral votes and lost by 7 million popular votes"?

It will be impeachment all over again. But now Trump is the victim. It won't be beneficial to drag it out, so a small number of speeches by the Democrats will suffice. Summarize what the constitution tells us to do and what things the states are allowed to do (pretty much anything, except tests for literacy etc. at polls.)

They are symbolizing how many votes they will get from Trump supporters at their next election. That's why they are doing this.
