Trump's Coup d'état.

It's 166-103 for Biden now.

The only "disputed" state that hasn't voted yet is Michigan.

As of now, no surprises, no faithless electors.

We are watching the Trump Coup d'état dying.

Faithless electors are a rarity given that the Party that wins the state gets to choose the electors, and they are careful to pick only loyal party members;it's a sort of honor and reward for service to the party. I think US citizenship and being a legal resident of the state are the only requirments.
BTW in New York Bill and Hilary Clinton are among the 29 electors.

Trump loses again.
Wisconsin Supreme Court rejects Trump election lawsuit

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A narrowly divided Wisconsin Supreme Court on Monday rejected President Donald Trump’s lawsuit attempting to overturn his loss to Democrat Joe Biden in the battleground state, ending Trump’s legal challenges in state court about an hour before the Electoral College was to meet to cast the state’s 10 votes for Biden.

That is certainly an alternative, but I'm hard-pressed to imagine a reason why Nancy P. would send that to a committee. .

Because she would get to be President.

If that is the game the GOP wants to play, the answer is to make them pay for it.

Seriously, imagine how that goes: the GOP plays games to prevent Biden from being president, and the result is President Pelosi.

Who wouldn't want that?

Pretty sure Nancy won't do that, but it would make everyone's heads explode, eh?

I don't know about Washington state (which IIANM is where you and Trebuchet live), but Colorado has "motor voter" registration, which allows voters to register at motor vehicle offices when they get, renew, or change address on a driver's licence, but IIRC (it's been quite a few years since I've done this), there is a separate form and separate process; it's not automatic. You can also register online.

In Canada, we have a check box on our tax returns asking us if we'll allow Revenue Canada to share our residence information with Elections Canada, so that we are registered to vote. It's literally one extra check mark on the form, and you're done. The last time I had to worry about being registered to vote was in my first Federal election back in University, over 30 years ago now.

I can't see why this system couldn't be adopted in the US (other than the obvious 'Hur dur We's Teh UAS!'). Just change the wording so you allow the IRS to share information with the various States. Pretty much automatically updated every year, you prove you're still at that residence because that's where they send you all your tax forms, doesn't require people to have a driver's license, doesn't require people to travel for hours and stand in lines. And it's the Feds doing it, so it's much harder for the States to play silly buggers with disenfranchising people.

One of the judges made this excellent analogy, something even Trump supporters could understand if only they weren't Trump supporters:
“Our laws allow the challenge flag to be thrown regarding various aspects of election administration,” Hagedorn wrote. “The challenges raised by the Campaign in this case, however, come long after the last play or even the last game; the Campaign is challenging the rulebook adopted before the season began.”

 Are you suggesting I don't know? Poor wording there.

Yes, other states have motor-voter registrations.

It is weird seeing the elecotrial college meeting to vote, which in a normal situation is not even the lead story on the day they meet, is getting such coverage.

Because as noted in sane times the idea of it being anything beyond a formality isn't even on the table.

For the same reason in 99.99 of cases the "If anyone knows why these two should not be wed" moment is just a formality, but in this case the US has a crazy-ex girlfriend we aren't 100% sure isn't going to do something.

They did it in Georgia.

Does the man have no clue that since the Democratic candidate won, the electors were chosen by the Democratic Party?

Thank goodness that is the norm or we would have a worse mess on our hands.

ETA: Georgia's electors have called it for Biden.

I wonder if the Republican slate of electors was meeting in a hotel or a parking lot.

Yes, it's such a formality normally. But they televise everything today including hundreds of thousands of cat videos.

In the Wisconsin case you quote, the campaign wanted to throw out votes from 2 counties (and only 2 counties - guess which ones? Did you say, "the ones with the most black people"? you were right) because they used a procedure for registering ballots that has been in use for more than 10 years and 19 different election cycles.

That's a little later than "after the game"

So non-official electors who were not voted in by nor appointed by the state have "cast a vote" to a non-existent place.

Right now, I cast my vote for Joe Biden/Kamala Harris.

That has as much meaning.

Again we all know the "alternative votes" are as meaningless as farting into the wind on any official level.

But we also all know that's not what it's about, it's about creating a counter-narrative and sewing distrust and paranoia.

I've just cast my vote for the Spongebob/Patrick ticket.

Donald Trump's whole shtick has been to do something more outrageous every time either the walls close around him (in order to distract from the thing we were outraged about first) or when ever he's just bored or feel like he's not getting enough attention.

Again I'm not seeing Trump "going away" in any variation of this.

And I'm not looking forward to what Trump is going to do to distract form him attempting a coup is going to be.
I'm wondering if Trump will go away when we do. If the "libs" stop being triggered, there goes the payoff for a large swath of his supporters. Doesn't it? His rise, fall and comeuppance have made for an absorbing reality TV show, with higher stakes than we're used to. So here we all are, waiting to see how it all turns out. As long as he can keep the suspense going, people will keep tuning in to find out what happens next.

Well the problem Trump is very, very good at doing things we can't ignore.

When he... nukes Denmark in his last week in office or streaks naked through Biden's inauguration or deep fries and eats the Declaration of Independance or whatever the voices in his head tell him to do we can't ignore that under the "ignore the troll / he's only doing it for the attention" methodology.
