Trump's Coup d'état.

Have there been any faithless electors yet? ...

FRAUD!!!!!!!

There's irony here in that the faithless electors in 2016 were Republicans against Trump. I knew there were some against Hilary and for Sanders. But there were also 2 against Trump. I would bet Trump has never forgotten that slight to his excellence.

Wiki
As a result of the seven successfully cast faithless votes, the Democratic Party nominee, Hillary Clinton, lost five of her pledged electors while the Republican Party nominee and then president-elect, Donald Trump, lost two. Three of the faithless electors voted for Colin Powell while John Kasich, Ron Paul, Bernie Sanders, and Faith Spotted Eagle each received one vote. The defections fell well short of the number needed to change the result of the election; only two of the seven defected from the winner, whereas 37 were needed to defect in order to force a contingent election in Congress (a tally of less than 270).[5]

Two political parties, A and B.

Party A has a majority in the House and the Senate of the U.S. Congress.

Party B has won the presidential election.

Party A controls the state legislatures (maybe the governorship, too, if necessary?) in states won by the candidate of party B and whose total of electoral college votes is greater than that candidate's margin of victory.

Party A's legislature submits an alternate slate of electors in each of those states.

In this scenario, party A can steal the election if both Houses of Congress vote to accept the alternate slate of electors.

Can this loophole be closed?

It looks like Biden will be confirmed once and for all...

Or is there still other political crap the Trumpanzees can pull between now and Jan 20?

Or am I just needlessly giving myself more grey hairs worrying that the nutbags still have an opportunity to rip the rug out from the world getting back to normal?

That's not correct. You have to register to vote here.

I don't know about Washington state (which IIANM is where you and Trebuchet live), but Colorado has "motor voter" registration, which allows voters to register at motor vehicle offices when they get, renew, or change address on a driver's licence, but IIRC (it's been quite a few years since I've done this), there is a separate form and separate process; it's not automatic. You can also register online.

There will probably be a challenge to one or more state's electors, but for that challenge to succeed, the House and the Senate will both need to vote in favor of the challenge, and that is unlikely to happen in either chamber.

So, for all practical purposes, Biden has won.

Unless something happens that no one has thought of yet.

I think there will be more shenanigans before Jan. 20. I really don't think it's a serious effort. I believe it is theatrics to further the narrative of the stolen election. I wouldn't be surprised if Trump goes so far as to form a "shadow presidency" and even issue phony "executive orders". It's mostly about keeping the idiots donating money to the effort, and to keep Trump in the news. I would hope that news media will simply start ignoring him after Jan.20, but I doubt they will.

Some news media surely will ignore him, but others surely won't ignore him. You know which are which.

More wanting a source besides Miller that anyone is in fact "appointing" alternate electors... curious who specifically is "appointing" these electors and what authority they CLAIM. I'm aware they have no real authority.
They did it in Georgia.
Earlier this year, I was honored to have been nominated to represent the state of Georgia as a member of the Electoral College.

Right now, the Republican slate of Georgia electors is taking decisive action by casting their votes in support of @realDonaldTrump.

There is an alternative.

Someone in the house of representatives challenges an EC and congress are sent to their chambers to address the challenge. The counting of the votes of the EC is put on hold until the matter is resolved.

The Senate immediately upholds the challenge, and therefore votes for the vote to thrown out.

Meanwhile, in the House, the Speaker sends the matter to a committee for review. The chair of the committee does not convene the committee.

On January 20, 2021, the President's and VP's 4 year term comes to an end, but there is no President elected by the EC. At that point, the Speaker of the House, the next in the order of secession, takes over as President of the United States until the election is resolved.

It's 166-103 for Biden now.

The only "disputed" state that hasn't voted yet is Michigan.

As of now, no surprises, no faithless electors.

We are watching the Trump Coup d'état dying.

Because any other election you weren't imagining it might be possible that some gun wielding loon could storm a government building and demand they give their EV to the 'real' winner...:(

The Michigan capital has been closed and the House and Senate offices shuttered due to "credible threats of violence". In addition, a Republican state Representative publicly stated that the protests he was helping organize might be violent.

"Credible threats of violence" have prompted Michigan authorities to close the state capitol to the public and shutter House and Senate offices, a spokeswoman said, on the day the Electoral College will formally declare Joe Biden the President-elect.
The tension surrounding Monday's procedure -- a typically routine event affirming a presidential victory -- was underscored in an interview with a GOP state lawmaker who floated the possibility of violence at the capitol and was swiftly stripped of his committee assignments by the legislature's Republican leaders.
...
Gideon D'Assandro, the communications director for state GOP House Speaker Lee Chatfield, also told CNN Sunday evening that the offices would be closed. He didn't elaborate on the security concern, but said the House and legislative bodies were informed about it by the Michigan State Police, which declined to comment on the matter to CNN.
...
Monday morning, Chatfield and Speaker-Elect Jason Wentworth announced that state Rep. Gary Eisen, a Republican, had been stripped of his assignments following remarks in a WPHM radio interview in which he said he was helping coordinate protests and could not assure that there would not be violence.
Eisen, who supported the failed Texas lawsuit that sought to overturn the election results, did not give details about who was organizing the protests but said he was warned "it's going to be violence, it's going to be protests."

That is certainly an alternative, but I'm hard-pressed to imagine a reason why Nancy P. would send that to a committee. Presumably she'd dispense with it as quickly as procedure would allow.

Who are they "casting their vote" to? It's not the Electoral College, so it really doesn't matter.
It will give a little cover to those in the U.S. House that will use it as a basis to challenge the legitimate slate of electors.

Even though this won't make a difference in this election, this process is insane and needs to be changed. As it stands at the moment, if the opposing party has a majority in Congress they can overturn a Presidential election.

here in Sacramento the police are beefing up security at the State Capitol Building where the California electors will meet.
