Trump threatening NBC?

All right. If people are unwilling to let his opinions matter, how do his opinions matter?

Idiotic white trash are willing to let his opinions matter. Because he is the President. Somehow I doubt they care as much about the opinions of random internet liberals.

Given that he is the *********** president, you are wrong.

If for no other reasons than he has the kind of supporters who were willing to physically attack protestors, reporters and cheer when he talked about Second Amendment solutions if Clinton got elected. And I have my doubts if the Republican party would be quite so sanguine about these sort of remarks if the subject was the 2nd Amendment.

They are still opinions as equal as anyone else's. The fact more listen is not a meaningful distinction. It is people choosing to listen. The opinions do not possess magical powers.

Possible. I wasn't alive then so I can't remember.

Wartime presidents tend to be adversarial with the press. Roosevelt and Wilson had their moments too. Wilson pushed through the Sedition Act which essentially criminalized publishing anything against the war. FDR issued an executive order creating a Censorship Board during the war.

Powerful people's opinions of course matter more than random people's. Hitler's opinions got tens of millions of people killed.

Of course they do.

Nope.

You are choosing to have it matter to you. I am not. If we both choose to not let it matter to us, then his opinion weighs as much to this cohort as someone on a liberal forum we don't know.

Also, and I hate to say it, but NBC and Infowars are really nothing alike.

This observation isn't really relevant, unless the difference between the two would explain why shutting one down isn't a violation of the First, while shutting the other down is.

Problem is we don't actually live in your Libertarian la-la land. In the real world the President of the USA is figure of considerable influence, Trump wouldn't even be in the job if he couldn't influence people to listen to him. And he is supposed to be sworn to defend the constitution isn't he? So as with every other aspect of the job he's demonstrating rank incompetence.

I wish some people here would learn that not everything everyone says demands a response. Let the inanity and banality stand for itself...

Note: I'm not alluding to Trump.

Thank you. I just want to be on the record of stating my disagreement with certain premises. It doesn't need to be a debate every single time.

Trying to educate BTC on the fact that almost all human beings are emotional, social creatures that of necessity establish hierarchical systems, and are not dispassionate robots that can completely dissociate from instinct, would appear to be folly.

The very fact of a person being elected head of state implicitly accords to him or her a greater weight of opinion. Realized in the US as the power of Executive Order. Else we should have a system like the most naively concieved utopian ideal of the commune, which of course is impossible simply because humans are not robots.
