I didn’t know that this was a thing. Is it a scam? It seems like it. It may be legal but still has a scammy feel.

I mean, if half the country thinks he's trustworthy enough to give him their vote for president, maybe they also believe that this sort of thing is the future of money and it's how all of the cool tech bros get rich and wouldn't I like to have a piece of that too? Trump can get away with anything now.

It's both legal and scam. President promoting it is illegal. But who cares anymore, right ?
Would it be illegal for the president to promote it? Serious question. I actually don't know. And would it be any different if he's just the president-elect? There was so much stuff in the past that used to be covered by "norms". Anyone old enough to remember "norms"? Before Trump basically showed that norms don't really stop you from doing things if you are willing to be bold and brazen enough.

Zit was 85% allocated before it's release.
zof course it's a scam.
Classic pump and dump.

The Melania one is even more obvious.

Scamming with crypto is legitimate now.

Not illegal to promote? Maybe.

But illegal to own and profit from?

"Eighty percent of Trump coin's tokens are owned by CIC Digital, an affiliate of Trump's business, and another entity called Fight, Fight, Fight, according to its website."

Per: https://www.reuters.com/technology/trumps-new-crypto-token-jumps-ahead-his-inauguration-2025-01-20/

Scammers gotta scam.

Quoting from your link:
The token, branded $TRUMP and criticized by ethics experts, was last trading at $33.88, according to cryptocurrency price tracker CoinGecko.
Yes, "ethics experts" may criticize, but as far as I can tell, nothing is actually illegal to the president of the United States anymore, is it? All federal prosecutions of Trump were scrapped on the day he won the election and the state prosecutions don't seem to be going very well either. Now he has pardoned the Jan. 6th rioters too.

Effectively, it seems like he has a free hand to do almost anything he wants now.

Melania coin down over 60%

What a rug!
Who's next? I'm guessing Barron. Don Jr and Eric are willing toadies for their dad but he doesn't seem to actually like them. I doubt he likes Barron either, but Melania does. So I guess $Barron is next. Which puts me in mind of mall pizza.

Another irritant: are people not reading $ as S? So the first one I was reading as "Strump". Did Ke$ha have no impact on these people?

The evidence so far is that T can do anything he likes without any constraints; so nothing is now illegal for him. Everyone who disagrees should get in line for their trip to the Gulag.

Turns out, the next one to launch a memecoin was the reverend. I wish I was kidding.

I read that these "memecoins" were worth $8 billion on paper (some reports even reported as much as a $58 billion at the peak, which lasted probably for a microsecond, if that). Of course, take that estimate with a huge grain of salt. It's based on a few trades. But that would, if actually true, make them worth more than the Los Angeles Dodgers ($4.8 billion) or the New York Yankees ($7.1 billion). Insane. But they probably will make millions of dollars for the people who created them and the Trump family.
