Trump Hiring Practices

I did a little more googling of Vitter...

Turns out she once suggested (against all scientific evidence) that the use of birth control by women leads to an increase in violence.

Oh, and by the way, she may have actually broken the law (according to Jeff Sessions at least) by not properly disclosing all information during her nomination.

From: https://www.npr.org/2018/04/11/6013...ator-faces-thorny-hearing-to-be-federal-judge
Vitter sought to distance herself from a brochure she had appeared to endorse...the brochure promoted a variety of unsubstantiated claims linking birth control pills to breast cancer, cervical and liver cancers, and "violent death."... All of these claims have been debunked by leading medical and scientific organizations, as Democratic Sen. Mazie Hirono of Hawaii observed.
...
Vitter became the subject of particular scrutiny not just because of her strong advocacy, but because she initially failed to disclose to the Senate Judiciary Committee public appearances at which she made some of her most controversial statements.

Remember folks, Trump is only hiring the best.

More problems with Trump's ambassadors...

The Ambassador to Germany (Richard Grenell) is getting criticized for saying he wants to "empower" European conservatives.

The U.S. is supposed to be neutral when it comes to dealing with the internal politics of other countries. (Yes, I know they do sometimes interfere, but not typically when its a strong U.S. ally.) Not only was it bad optics, but it automatically sets up a hostile environment if/when anyone on the political left takes power.

You would figure being an ambassador would be pretty simple... promote the U.S. and don't do anything stupid. Guess that was too much to expect.

Asked about the above, State Spokesperson Heather Nauert said this:
We have a very strong relationship with the government of Germany," Nauert said. "Looking back in the history books, today is the 71st anniversary of the speech that announced the Marshall Plan. Tomorrow is the anniversary of the D-Day invasion. We obviously have a very long history with the government of Germany, and we have a strong relationship with the government of Germany

Well, you can't deny that without Germany, D-day would not have happened.

Another fine attempt at hiring by the Trump administration:

https://www.cnn.com/2018/06/29/politics/ken-isaacs-migration-united-nations/index.html
The UN migration agency on Friday voted down Ken Isaacs, the Trump administration's candidate to lead the International Organization for Migration...Isaacs once wrote on Twitter that Austria and Switzerland should consider building a wall in the Alps to keep refugees out....CNN's KFile previously reported on tweets from Isaacs that revealed an extensive history of sharing anti-Muslim sentiment.

Who knew that the U.N. (which includes dozens of Muslim countries) would be adverse to having someone working for them who held bigoted religious views?

The latest hire by Trump: Bill Shine (Deputy Chief of Staff, communications)

From: https://www.cnn.com/2018/07/05/politics/bill-shine-white-house-announcement/index.html
Shine was a key deputy of powerful Fox News chairman Roger Ailes. When Ailes was accused of sexual harassment by numerous women in 2016, Shine was accused of covering up the alleged misdeeds.... Shine was named in at least four lawsuits or allegations related to alleged sexual harassment or racial discrimination at the network.

So the guy who couldn't even handle sexual harassment at Fox (land of misogyny and bigotry) gets to work in the white house.

So are you suggesting he does not have relevant experience? Or just that he is demonstrably ineffective?

It seems if he has experience covering up misdeeds, that should be an important asset for the Trump White House.

Either he is ineffective/incompetent (by not realizing how serious the problems were at Fox News and dealing with them properly), or he is willfully malicious (with shades of misogyny and bigotry) in attempting to hide things.

Both should disqualify him from a position at the white house.

Another fine appointment by the Trump administration:

Trey Glenn

From: https://www.al.com/news/2018/11/tru...rator-indicted-on-alabama-ethics-charges.html
A Jefferson County grand jury has indicted the Southeast regional administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency and a former Alabama Environmental Management Commissioner for violating state ethics laws... President Donald Trump appointed Glenn lead EPA’s Region 4 in August 2017, after incidents covered in the indictment.... The indictment is not Glenn’s first brush with Alabama ethics laws. In 2007, the Alabama Ethics Commission referred a complaint against Glenn...

Matthew Whitiker

Trump's acting attorney general (he's been discussed elsewhere in the forum). Not only is his appointment possibly unconstitutional, he sat on a board for a company that is being investigated for fraud.

John Oliver took square aim at one of the lesser known ones in this sunday's segment. At this point, it really is par for the course to bring in an oil company board member to run the bureau in charge of regulating, you guessed it, the oil industry. And it's not at all dodgy when said person, speaking at a meeting with oil industry executives, hands out his personal cellphone number (that's 571-585-3730) and telling said executives to feel free to call him, reminding them that texts and mails could be subject to FOIA requests *hint-hint*.

Time to dust off this thread, with yet another stellar Trump nomination/appointment...

Trump has nominated Neomi Rao to fill the spot on the appeals court formerly held by Drunky McRapeface (a.k.a. Brett "I like beer" Kavanaugh). There are however a few problems with her. (See if you can spot the problem.)

From: https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory/remarks-trump-judicial-pick-date-rape-race-draw-60845546
Rao...has never tried a case in state or federal court.
...
In a 1994 opinion column, Rao wrote: "Unless someone made her drinks undetectably strong or forced them down her throat, a woman, like a man, decides when and how much to drink. And if she drinks to the point where she can no longer choose, well, getting to that point was a part of her choice."...And she said a decades-long struggle for LGBT rights was part of "trendy political movements"

Also, from: https://www.vox.com/policy-and-poli...eoimi-rao-brett-kavanaugh-trump-court-nominee
She’s also previously argued that “multiculturalists ... seek to undermine American culture.”... During the hearing, Rao was also asked about her college writings on race and comments she made characterizing sexual and racial oppression as a “myth,” a position she attributed to being too “idealistic” as an undergraduate.

Now, she is now claiming that her earlier writings and opinions were "wrong" and that she has changed since then. But, as the second article points out:
...in her role as head of the White House’s Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, has supported the Trump administration’s rollback of Title IX protections for victims of sexual assault on college campuses.

You have to think its really bad optics appointing someone with that type of history to replace someone who is widely thought to be an attempted rapist. (Not to mention her lack of experience in courts.)

Yet another extremely competent Trump appointment...

Dr. Oz, a formerly respected surgeon turned TV personality who has now gone off the deep end (promoting things like homeophaths, and giving a voice to anti-vaccine advocates) is being appointed to the President's council on health and fitness.

https://www.vox.com/2018/5/4/17318932/dr-oz-trump-council-sports-fitness-nutrition

Granted it is largely ceremonial, but still, people like him should be shunned, not given a platform.

It also reinforces Trump's fondness for TV Personalties.

It also reinforces Trump's fondness for TV Personalties.

But he doesn't KNOW anyone else?

Seriously, you think he would actually know who might be a real expert on health and fitness?

Hell, we should be thankful he didn't just appoint Melania

Trump routinely staffed his facilities with illegal immigrants:
The Washington Post spoke with 16 men and women from Costa Rica and other Latin American countries, including six in Santa Teresa de Cajon, who said they were employed at the Trump National Golf Club Bedminster. All of them said they worked for Trump without legal status — and that their managers knew.

The former employees who still live in New Jersey provided pay slips documenting their work at the Bedminster club. They identified friends and relatives in Costa Rica who also were employed at the course. In Costa Rica, The Post located former workers in two regions who provided detailed accounts of their time at the Bedminster property and shared memorabilia they had kept, such as Trump-branded golf tees, as well as photos of themselves at the club.

Elliott Abrams... appointed special envoy to Venezuela, a country that is currently undergoing significant and upheaval.

The problem with Abrams:
- He has a long history of some rather questionable activity... he was involved in the Iran-Contra affair (And, he was quite supportive of the Iraq invasion).
- He was actually convicted of lying to congress, and only got out of it because Bush Sr. gave him a pardon
So you have a person who gives both the wrong message to Venezuela (i.e. "You can trust us... even we're relying on someone who uses dirty tricks to interfere with other countries) and to congress (i.e. "Here's a guy that will lie to you")

Strangely enough, Trump may not have been the one behind this hiring... it may have been Pompeo. (Abrams was originally picked to work for Tillerson until Trump found out that Abrams didn't support his candidacy.) But, I assume Trump would still have the authority to stop his appointment.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/jan/26/elliott-abrams-venezuela-us-special-envoy

Samantha Bee (Television host / Comedienne) covered Abrams on a recent episode of her show.
(See: https://www.rollingstone.com/tv/tv-news/samantha-bee-full-frontal-donald-trump-venezuela-791252/)

Matthew Whitaker... Currently acting attorney general.

Lets ignore for a moment the rather questionable way he gained his position (there have been court challenges suggesting he needed senate confirmation, and its thought that the main reason he was given the position was because he was hostile to the Mueller investigation)

Here's a guy who was part of a company called World Patent Marketing (A company that was shut down by the FTC for defrauding investors). And he wasn't just a low level employee for them... he was on their advisory board and appeared in promotional ads. He also threatened people who were complaining about being defrauded.
