I did a little more googling of Vitter...

Turns out she once suggested (against all scientific evidence) that the use of birth control by women leads to an increase in violence.

Oh, and by the way, she may have actually broken the law (according to Jeff Sessions at least) by not properly disclosing all information during her nomination.

More problems with Trump's ambassadors...

The Ambassador to Germany (Richard Grenell) is getting criticized for saying he wants to "empower" European conservatives.

The U.S. is supposed to be neutral when it comes to dealing with the internal politics of other countries. (Yes, I know they do sometimes interfere, but not typically when its a strong U.S. ally.) Not only was it bad optics, but it automatically sets up a hostile environment if/when anyone on the political left takes power.

You would figure being an ambassador would be pretty simple... promote the U.S. and don't do anything stupid. Guess that was too much to expect.

We have a very strong relationship with the government of Germany," Nauert said. "Looking back in the history books, today is the 71st anniversary of the speech that announced the Marshall Plan. Tomorrow is the anniversary of the D-Day invasion. We obviously have a very long history with the government of Germany, and we have a strong relationship with the government of Germany

So the guy who couldn't even handle sexual harassment at Fox (land of misogyny and bigotry) gets to work in the white house.

Either he is ineffective/incompetent (by not realizing how serious the problems were at Fox News and dealing with them properly), or he is willfully malicious (with shades of misogyny and bigotry) in attempting to hide things.

Both should disqualify him from a position at the white house.

John Oliver took square aim at one of the lesser known ones in this sunday's segment. At this point, it really is par for the course to bring in an oil company board member to run the bureau in charge of regulating, you guessed it, the oil industry. And it's not at all dodgy when said person, speaking at a meeting with oil industry executives, hands out his personal cellphone number (that's 571-585-3730) and telling said executives to feel free to call him, reminding them that texts and mails could be subject to FOIA requests *hint-hint*.

 
Time to dust off this thread, with yet another stellar Trump nomination/appointment...

Trump has nominated Neomi Rao to fill the spot on the appeals court formerly held by Drunky McRapeface (a.k.a. Brett "I like beer" Kavanaugh). There are however a few problems with her. (See if you can spot the problem.)

During the hearing, Rao was also asked about her college writings on race and comments she made characterizing sexual and racial oppression as a “myth,” a position she attributed to being too “idealistic” as an undergraduate.

Now, she is now claiming that her earlier writings and opinions were "wrong" and that she has changed since then. But, as the second article points out:
...in her role as head of the White House’s Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, has supported the Trump administration’s rollback of Title IX protections for victims of sexual assault on college campuses.

You have to think its really bad optics appointing someone with that type of history to replace someone who is widely thought to be an attempted rapist. (Not to mention her lack of experience in courts.)

All of them said they worked for Trump without legal status — and that their managers knew.

Elliott Abrams... appointed special envoy to Venezuela, a country that is currently undergoing significant and upheaval.

The problem with Abrams:
- He has a long history of some rather questionable activity... he was involved in the Iran-Contra affair (And, he was quite supportive of the Iraq invasion).
- He was actually convicted of lying to congress, and only got out of it because Bush Sr. gave him a pardon
So you have a person who gives both the wrong message to Venezuela (i.e. "You can trust us... even we're relying on someone who uses dirty tricks to interfere with other countries) and to congress (i.e. "Here's a guy that will lie to you")

Strangely enough, Trump may not have been the one behind this hiring... it may have been Pompeo. (Abrams was originally picked to work for Tillerson until Trump found out that Abrams didn't support his candidacy.) But, I assume Trump would still have the authority to stop his appointment.

Lets ignore for a moment the rather questionable way he gained his position (there have been court challenges suggesting he needed senate confirmation, and its thought that the main reason he was given the position was because he was hostile to the Mueller investigation)

Here's a guy who was part of a company called World Patent Marketing (A company that was shut down by the FTC for defrauding investors). And he wasn't just a low level employee for them... he was on their advisory board and appeared in promotional ads. He also threatened people who were complaining about being defrauded.
