Paul Ryan has weighed in. Short answer: Comey's the bad guy

https://twitter.com/NatashaBertrand/status/864846378358509568

Comey should have quit when the President tried to interfere with investigation. I'm sure it was because of what he was wearing, or something, that made it his fault.

Then again, Paul Ryan seems to be admitting that Trump tried to interfere.

We've reached the political singularity, where the habitual dishonesty has become so commonplace it tends towards infinity, and our social theories are ill-equipped to describe the situation.

I actually need a job that gives me more to do so I don't waste my life on this forum!

Except participating in any kind of discussion sharpens our own thinking on the topics, so it's never entirely wasted. And we live in interesting times...

Ryan has obviously realized he needs to stall Trump's removal long enough to get something impeachable on Pence as well, so when they're both taken out at once he becomes President.

I've worked for one boss that could be quite creative when it came to not-remembering or mis-remembering what happened or was decided in meetings. I took to the habit of always taking notes and as soon as possible after the meeting would send those notes to my boss - it's called "covering my arse". Surprised that isn't more common in the USA civil service.

I am in the US Civil Service. It is so common a practice as to not be the slightest bit remarkable. When my idiot boss verbally tells me to do something asinine, I always follow with a "as we discussed yesterday, I believe doing [course of action] is ill advised. Having had a day to reflect, do you want me to proceed?" email.

Trump is, in many ways, a tone deaf, impulsive dimwit.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if there is absolutely nothing to any of the Russia nonsense and his mindset is "because there's nothing to it, I'm sick of this and I don't understand how bad the optics of angrily trying to bring this all to a conclusion are, especially given that a lot of people don't know there's nothing to it."

I wouldn't be the least surprised if there was plenty to it.

It's hard to imagine that Flynn doesn't possess explosive evidence. Trump doesn't think twice about dumping people when it suits him. He's taken extraordinary steps to protect Flynn. I don't buy for a second that it's because Trump is loyal to those who are loyal to him.
This speculation makes sense.

There's one unlikely and bizarre scenario where Trump is innocent regarding Russia: The motivations for his actions are the same as when he went mental over the inaugural crowd size. Skin so thin that it barely contains his internal organs. He's not mommy's and daddy's special prince if he needed the Ruskies help to get elected.
Possible.

See Triple parenthesesWP.
the notation being classified as a form of hate speech by the Anti-Defamation League.

I know what everyone else says it means. I'd like to know what he says it means.

I was using it ironically, and in solidarity with God's chosen people and America's greatest allies!:D

"In the wake of these actions, some users, both Jews and non-Jews, have intentionally placed their own names within triple parentheses as a sign of solidarity.[6]" -Wikipedia

It wouldn't surprise me much if a bunch of people didn't have "the goods" on Trump. This is Washington - CYA is the norm.

While I agree with your first sentence I'd be surprised there wasn't a lot to it. I think Trump is ignorant and lazy but I don't believe he is dumb. And Trump is and has always been corrupt believing the rules don't apply to him. If there is a shortcut, he's going to take it. Trump's biggest blind spot is his ego . He thinks he's smarter than everyone without bothering to put in the work.

And don't kid yourself Trump fired Comey for a reason and it had NOTHING to do with how Comey treated Hillary.

Yeah, and I would wager that reason was a combination of it making him feel powerful to be able to fire the FBI director and him being irritated with the investigation drawing on. I think he got frustrated with the endless stuff about Russia and impulsively fired Comey because he thought of it as a way to lash out at the whole Russia narrative, throw his power around, and he stupidly thought the dems would not react like this because "they don't like Comey either" and thought this would be a freebie.

But I think all of that is entirely compatible with the Russia thing being 100% BS. Because Trump isn't restrained or calm enough to think to himself "there's nothing to this, and in time that will be revealed, or at least nothing particularly devastating to me can result from this because there's nothing to it. I'll just let them spin their wheels on this as long as they want to."

Trump has certainly made FBI Director an attractive job! I can just imagine a long line of well-respected, highly talented people queuing up for the opportunity! What a great chance to destroy one's life-long career and reputation after a few weeks of absolute hell in office.

Candidate: So you fired the last guy for doing his job and placing loyalty to the Constitution ahead of personal loyalty to you?
Trump: Yes indeedy. He was terrible, absolutely terrible. The worst FBI director ever. I'm looking for someone to only investigate my enemies. I've got enough problems without the FBI putting their nose into my business. So what do you say?
Candidate: I'll get back to you.
