Only the truly sick would attack a country who is at war with no one and accepts refugees from around the world.

Sweden has had ongoing problems with migrant clashes and the far right neo-nazi groups over the past few years. Synagogues have been targeted, so it is not all to do with immigrants, as the Jews have been there for decades. Once refugees themselves, now a target for the extremists.

Of course that is no explanation or excuse for this truly heinous and barbaric act by this evil coward.

The police were earlier quoted saying that they had people taken in for questioning, but none arrested. So more probably one attacker, and other people running from the area was taken by the police.

That's not unusual. At an incident like this, police policy is generally to hold anyone that even might be involved, then sort everyone out after things calm down.

An example is during the Sandy Hook shooting, a father who heard about what was going on ran to the school and got handcuffed and put into a police car until the police realized who he was. All the conspiracy loons jumped on the incident as "proof" that more people were involved.

The suspected Uzbek lorry attacker under arrest is said to be Rahmat Akilov, born 1978, from Samarkand, said to have been a rejected asylum seeker, and due for deportation.


His neighbour describes him as 'very intellectual'.

I hope you were asked personally by that girls family to post that picture. Otherwise I think one should avoid posting pictures of people, especially if it's not even 100% sure who it is. The family may not want that picture for ever to be associated with an attack.

I did say it was only 'reported'. From mass media, BTW, who seem to be quoting her own relatives from FB. It is in the public domain.

Unfortunately, I am unable to edit it. However, you could ask the mods to remove it, if it breaks any privacy laws. I know they are a lot stricter in Scandinavia than England.

BBC has announced the UK victim as Chris Bevington, 41, a Swedish resident of ten years, together with a statement from his father, John.

The sad thing about the young girl who died is that she was deaf and did not hear the lorry.

So whoever it was, RIP.

In my view circulating pictures of a child, associating her with an attack, not not even knowing the facts ("it was only 'reported'") is not being careful with facts, and it is not being careful with photos of a person. That was the point I was trying to make.

Anyway - all four dead have now been identified, and their families have been notified. Still 9 people at hospitals, 2 of them in serious condition.

The police seems to have caught the right person, and have also detained several others for some kind of involvement.

TBH it was the parents and relatives - albeit understandably - who made it public via FB.

Yes, that is not uncommon from what I understand. The only additional comment is - they are most probably in shock, and may not have made entirely rational decisions. It's up to us as individual that are "on the outside" to try to balance our actions, regardless of what happens around us.

Heard from my Stockholm relatives and they are all safe.

I'm glad to hear that. Luckily relatively few where killed/injured, but it's still a horrible situation for those affected.

Stockholm terror suspect Rakhmat Akilov has been formally charged. On Tuesday prosecutor Hans Ihrman submitted the indictment against Akilov to the Stockholm District Court.

Akilov is charged with terrorist offences, and attempted terrorist offenses.

The Stockholm District Court found Rakhmat Akilov guilty of terrorist crimes by five murders and attempted terrorist crimes by 119 counts of attempted murder and 24 counts of causing danger to others. He was sentenced to life in prison. Following his jail sentence he will be expelled from Sweden and he will be banned from returning to the country.
