Two small ships have set off for Gaza, attempting to challenge the Israeli Navy blockade.
http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1014413.html
The wooden boats are due to arrive in Israeli territorial waters over the next 24 hours.

Should Israel just ignore them and let the ships reach Gaza? Perhaps leaving them alone is the best thing, so their mission doesn't attract much publicity. For Israel to make a big deal of it would be exactly what these folks are hoping for.
Right now, according to their website, they are in debt for hundreds of thousands of $$$, and without the attention of the world they will be merely a bankrupt bunch of losers.

they should block the Israeli ports, to prevent weappon delivery to Israel

LoL, I read about it, especially the granny. Stupid people AHOOOI!

The group plans to deliver 200 hearing aids to a Palestinian charity for
children and hand out 5,000 balloons.

That'll bring peace and change Hamas' mind!

Larudee said it is highly unlikely the Israeli navy would fire on the boats to stop them. But he said the group expects Israeli authorities to intercept the boats and arrest those onboard.

Larudee said the group would contest any arrests in court on the premise that Israeli authorities committed kidnapping.

Ahaha. Good luck with that, granny and friends!

They hope other rights groups will follow their example.

"It's about human rights...to let Palestinians and visitors travel freely to and from Palestinian lands, what could be more basic than that?" said Free Gaza organizer Paul Larudee.

Absolutely.
Gaza is not a prison.

Israel is stuck.
It either stops this group, or admits that the blockade is crumbling. And I doubt that a succesful mission will pass unnoticed.

You have an excluded middle problem here, FireGarden.

We both understand, I think, how the message is trying to be sent by these "blockade runners" who think that a symbolic success of no material substance somehow "ends" the blockade/embargo. That they pass at Israeli suffrance demonstrates that Israel can, if they like, continue or end the embargo at their own discretion. The transparency of this little adventure fairly leaps off the page.

It isn't all or nothing.

Fair enough.
Israel can choose to stop the next group. Or the one after that...... And so on. But the blockade won't look so complete and strong.

If the dam is leaking, you can choose to patch it up today. Or tomorrow. Or the day after.... Hey, the choice is yours. You're still in control of the dam. But the dam is leaking.

Have some divers go under the boat at night and sabotage the rudder to go in circles. Make them ask the Israeli Navy for help. ;)

The War on Stupid continues. It is a forever war.

Sometimes it's a downhill war.

"Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

Your post just made me think of that quote. One of the best lines ever.

Sure enough, since at the political and symbolic level, things aren't as cut and dried as at the kinetic and physical level. The Israelis are doubtless cooking up a way to make these two "blockade runners" look trivial or ineffectual. That is my thought. The Israelis also understand symbolic warfare.

Letting them through gets headlines in some political activist blog. Arresting them gets headlines all over the world.
