In a system where there is considerable social and economic disadvantage to belonging to a particular racial group, in this case Black American, there may be factors which increase resorting to violent or criminal behaviour. It is still true, no matter how much you squirm about it, that US society in general, whatever the race, is almost uniquely violent among western developed nations. When you consider the common features of western civilization it is likely the outliers in US society that cause this difference and the biggest difference is the existence of a culturally libertarian outlook with mass gun ownership. If you are advocating for progress on social and economic progress in American society for all peoples that is a worthy aim, but unless you couple it with trying to tackle gun culture I fear you will just be back here iin a week or two discussing another mass shooting.

There were six mass shootings between this one you mentioned and the last one mentioned in the thread.

Including this one:
Columbus police officers were called to a Shell gas station just after 10 p.m. in reference to a shooting.

When they got there, they found a large group of people that included nine juveniles who had suffered gunshot wounds.

The victims included:

Male, 5
Male, 12
Female, 13
Female, 13
Male, 13
Male, 14
Male, 15
Male, 15
Male, 17

The victims’ names have not been released because they are juveniles.

This is most likely due to "gun culture," but the kind that goes mostly ignored on this forum.



ETA: there was a mass shooting in Memphis last night with 11 victims. My guess is it wasn't an NRA meeting.

Did I miss mention of the nine children injured in a Georgia mass shooting? None killed this time so I suppose that's all right then. And there seem to be a couple of new ones in Memphis last night, 10 injured and one dead.

If I missed those above, sorry. It's hard to keep up.

If you include dead and injured in your metric then there have been exactly 8 of these shootings in Canadian history. If "victims" means dead only there have been 2. Seems like the relative lack of a "gun culture" can have very positive results.

Go to the GVA mass shooting page and click on "view incident" on any mass shooting and look at the links they provide. They are almost all local news sources.

Are they all racist? How about GVA, are they racist for linking them? Should every one stop reporting on black crime because they are racists as well?

The New York Times reported that 75% of all mass shootings are committed by blacks, are they racist now also?

Answer your own question. Why aren't white people committing the overwhelming majority of these shootings?

Is black culture the culture of criminality you speak of? If not what is it?

It is the culture that refuses to cooperate with police. It is the culture that accepts criminal behavior as acceptable, normal and tolerable. It is the culture that glorifies violence and criminality, etc.
 
I agree with Bogative. His posts clearly show that is it a toxic masculine 'gun culture' where guns are seen as 'cool' and 'manly' that causes all the deaths in the US.
Clearly therefore gun ownership should be forbidden for men, right Bogative?

I think lumping all mass shootings- or comparing by race- is silly.
If you look at incidents where several persons are killed, and the motive behind how it happened, there are VERY different types of crimes happening - just with the same result, same instrument.

Mass shooter 1 - The fantasy plotter - imagines the crime for a while, buys equipment, plots actions, chooses the day and time. like the Vegas shooter (and it crosses into knives and bombs and arson- same idea, different method ete: this goes to many of the ones below as well)

Mass shooter 2 - Family troubles.... ie One day tension erupts and goes and shoots ex-partner, the kids, and any family in the home

Mass shooter 3 - Tribal warfare on the street. Gang members see rivals on corner. Shootout happens...5 dead. This happens a lot.

Mass shooter 4- Religious/political nut, ie must kill all the gays, jews, parliament etc... eg the Chinese man who shot the Taiwanese church people(and yes, ethnically, all the same).
Also correlates to mass shooter #1 as it is planned.

Mass shooter 5- Mentally unstable- clinically insane. ie voices tell them to kill. Very paranoid personalities.

Mass shooter 6 - angry drunken arguments resulting in "I'll show you!!!" which might involve leaving and returning to shoot up the place, killing anyone around

Any more that are very different than the above? (that arent a direct combo of the above?)

I think to reduce the incidents, you'll have to delve into the incentives of doing it and the inputs that gave cause to those incentives.

A 35-year-old man and a 15-year-old juvenile have been arrested in the Columbus, Georgia mass shooting.
