Several posts moved to AAH, primarily for bickering.

Keep to the topic, folks, which is, as ever, not one another.

Thank you for your consideration.

I was on Twitter and there was a list of shootings where a teen or 19-21 year old shot a number of people. Every one of them had AR-15. I know you can do a lot of damage with modern handguns that have cartridges of over 10 bullets. But there really are very few shootings with no "AR-15" where more than 10 are killed.

I could not find a thread where automatic weapons are discussed. They were only banned briefly in the Clinton era and in the Trump era any regulation of guns by presidential act were repealed. Also under Bush.

Politicians have come out to protect AR-15s. You need them to keep out the invasion of "foreigners" antifa et al. But all one of them offered as an excuse was feral pigs. You need an AR-15 for that.

They really have no good defense of automatic weapons. It is merely the fear of a domino effect banning use of all guns little by little that they are defending. Or "slippery slide."

A) It isn't automatic

B) Its effectiveness is an argument for its legality, not for banning it

No. There is not a home invasion that you will have any use of it. Unless you keep it under your bed. But, the problem there is that when you have it handy, you are asleep. And if it's a drive by shooting at your house you can't do anything.

Good guys with this weapon will have no benefit. Unless..the feral pigs.

where else would you keep it!

People have literally used guns to defend themselves from home invasion

I do not think those officers were 'cowards' as some here have called them. They did, in fact, take down the shooter. It was a very poor judgment call by the Commander and against shooter situation protocol. He should be held to account for it.

19 of them stood outside the classroom for 40 minutes while shots could be heard. They are indeed cowards with the blood of children on their hands.

or...they performed better than the average person in that situation with that level of training?

You live in a country that happily isn't butt deep in a gun loving culture like the US is. It's so deeply ingrained in some people here that they'd sooner thousands and thousands of people die every year from guns than live without them.

Correct.

Taking reasonable precautions against intruders is important, but let us not kid ourselves that locking a back door on someone who is hell-bent on massacring kids is being used as anything but a distraction from the real problem which is a **** ton of guns.

I also teach elementary school students, by the way, and while of course security is an important issue to be taken seriously by schools, I am extremely glad I don't have to assume that any old crazy can come running into the classroom and start shooting people with an AR-15.

It's an absolutely horrible situation and just appears like a form of collective insanity that people either cannot see the problem or they spend endless amounts of time attempting to pretend simple syllogistic logic doesn't work.

Go right ahead. You don't need an AR-15. Less damage to furniture and by standers or neighbors if you live in an apartment.

If you are shooting through a door, use a 9mm several times. More effective.

Where were the 19 cops? I thought they were outside the building, but were they inside, with the shooter and children inside a classroom?
