Time for some TRAFFIC!

That damn liberal media.

Some on Fox are spinning Christie's news conference and firings as outstanding leadership, courage, and decisiveness, contrasting it with Obama's ....something or other. I couldn't stop laughing reading the web page.

I often wonder if they really believe what they are saying.

While New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is getting hammered over a close aide's involvement in snarling traffic as an apparent act of political retribution, he's nevertheless set himself apart from the Obama administration in his response to scandal.

The punishment in Trenton was swift. The governor said at a press conference Thursday that, within minutes of seeing incriminating emails, he fired his deputy chief of staff. He also sidelined his former campaign manager, nixing a lucrative contract and shutting him out of a plum job at the helm of the state GOP. Two Port Authority officials previously had resigned.

I don't think Christie had anything to do with this..... and I think that's pretty clear. Either way, if he did, there is no way it doesn't come out.

It really looks bad on him when he flipped out at the reporter a few months back.... to me, that looks just awful and he has to seriously has to apologize to that reporter just doing his job.

This brought an interesting thought to mind. For 5 years Darrell Issa and his ilk have been trying to create outrage, drum up scandal, contrive corruption and nothing has stuck, because nothing was there.

When something is there, it sticks all by itself.

I'm not so sure about that, but when you're attached to a rising star like Christie, and so...arrogantly stupid in your conspiracies...you really make him out to look like an idiot. There's no way around it, these are poor subordinates, even if Christie did order them to attack someone for political reasons.

Really, storing the messages on Gmail? Does that platform work in some way I don't know to make everything easily retrievable, whether you want it or not?

...why am I asking for better super villains all over this thread, anyway? I'd actually prefer this ridiculous overreach, long-term...

Let's not forget about the ultimate in arrogantly stupid. Good old Alberto Gonzales and the God squad.:D During Bush's terms crazy and arrogant were just the new normal.

I can imagine an atmosphere encouraged by Christie that considered all ways to "maximally screw our enemies" (as Nixon put it) as normal operating procedure and not really requiring a direct order from Christie, giving him plausible deniabililty.

I'm convinced what angered him about the revelations was the sloppiness of his staff allowing a paper trail to be produced. Christie as victim of a staff member to that extent, ok, I'll buy that one. Their reference to "kids of Buono voters" as expendable is disgusting and calling Sokolich, mayor of Fort Lee, an idiot is very telling. Just listen to that guy speak. He's an impressive public servant.

What are you basing that on? The order to do this came directly out of his office and involved every high level person on his staff. In fact, the only person higher than the people involved here was him. Furthermore, Christie personally called Andrew Cuomo to ask him to stop investigating.

http://www.politico.com/story/2013/12/chris-christie-andrew-cuomo-traffic-101092.html

On the phone call this week that was first reported Thursday in The Wall Street Journal, Christie told the New York governor that the Cuomo-appointed executive director of Port Authority, which both states have joint control of, has been pressing too much into the lane closures. The Journal said its report was based on a person familiar with the matter.
“The Governor speaks regularly with Governor Cuomo on any number of mutual-interest topics. Those conversations are private,” a spokesman for Christie told POLITICO in an email.

Yep, sounds totally innocent to me.

Same here.

And frankly, I think he lacks credibly deniability, and with Maddow on his tail, he has a major problem.

I won't say he's good servant, but he is a good speaker. Although I may misunderstand who you're referring to XD

But our story, as it stands now, is clearly wrong, and I have no idea how these pundits can see Christie's press conference and say that that ultimately helped. Not a chance, unless something aids him...

Oh, as far as I care, Christie's gone. It's nice to see the press try to rehab him.. like he's some local mayor instead of a top pick for the 2016 nomination. That's absurd, as I said. And frankly, it's crap., for many reasons I could name but won't...

From the NY Times:

Papers in Traffic Scandal Point to Cover-Up of Political Motives

Officials loyal to Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey went to elaborate means to make it appear that the September closing of lanes leading to the George Washington Bridge was part of a traffic study, even though their private communications suggest the move was purely political, according to documents released on Friday.

The documents also show a concerted effort to keep their true motivation hidden, including the insistence by one official of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey in an email that communications about the matter should not be conducted by email or discussed publicly.

People don't know that, or at least not always. Plus, if traffic really backs out, it could hit the city and tie the whole place up. And of kids are on school buses for four hours...well, quote a few of them could attend private schools in NYC...I guess...

There's just one problem with this - that story isn't going to last very long under any circumstance, and the town mayor was elected in 2011, to a 4 year term. But then, this whole thing still sounds like pure vindictiveness than anything calculated in any case, so...
Thank you for the response. However, I've now read it several times and can't find the answer to my question: How does hampering traffic flow onto a bridge for any length of time harm the mayor of the town located on one side?

What I read somewhere was that the rumor was put out, apparently as a part of the ruse, that Mayor Sokolich was at fault for blocking the lanes. People were blaming him I guess.

Perhaps I'm just gullible, but Sokolich comes across as a very genuine person, and intensely concerned about his town with no desire for higher public office. It's kind of rare to encounter a politician with such refreshing transparency, though I volunteered for one years ago who turned out in the end to be a crook.;)

As someone else stated, they were telling irate commuters that the mayor had ordered the lane closures personally. It seems the plot was to create a massive traffic jam and then get everyone to blame Sokolich for it. Bush league? Sure. But that's why they got caught. No matter how inane the plot sounds, it's what happened. They did what they did. Maybe it wasn't just over an endorsement, but I doubt you'll ever get the whole story.

OK, I'll bite.

Dera Roseanne Rosannadanna,
Last September I tried to get to work and the traffic was terrible. I was late four days in a row and my boss was really angry. Now I hear that the governor closed the George Washington bridge for no reason.
Will he write a note so my boss won't fire me? Why is that guy so fat anyway? Is Chris short for Christopher? Did George Washington build that bridge? Did he really have wooden teeth? How could you chew meat with wooden teeth?

Signed,
Mr. Richard Feder
Fort Lee, New Jersey

Dear Richard Feder,
Ya know, for a guy from Fort Lee, you sure ask a lotta questions! Like I was saying to my cousin, Brianna Roseannadanna, if it's not one scandal, it's another. Mr. Feder, I know what you're talking about, cause I, Roseanne Roseannadanna had the same thing happen to me! A few weeks ago I was visiting my Nana Roseannadanna at the hospital cause she had a hairy boil on her butt that needed to be lanced. And who do they wheel by on a stretcher but the big tomato himself, Chris Christie. They were pushing him on one of those things - what do you call them - a gorney, something like dat, out of the room that said "Bariactric Surgery" with just dis thin sheet covering his modesty. But boy was dere plenty to see. I mean, the guy is huge! But not in the important places where a guy would like to be huge, if you know what I'm sayin'.

So he's lyin' dere lights out, and he's right close by, right where I can see a little snot bubble covering his nostril. He's breathing real shallow, so on each exhale the snot bubble expands but it don't break! I wanted to take a little used chewed up toothpick off the tray of hospital lunch that was left on the nurses station and just pop it, I mean I thought I was gonna die it was so disgusting. But the Secret Service sees me with the toothpick and start to go all commando-like, so I said, "fine, mister spooks, YOU wipe his nose." As they're wheeling him by and as the door to the surgery swings open a gust of wind makes the sheet fly up for a second and I see these stains all over the bottom sheet like brown and gross and runny. Almost made me throw up. So I says to the Governor, "whaddya tryin' ta do, make me sick?" It's like my cousin Lola Falana Roseannadanna says, "if it's not one thing, it's another. It's either a fecal stain or a snot bubble."

But I know exactly what he's goin' through 'cause once, I, Roseanne Roseannadanna, tried to lose some weight. I had to join one of those fancy-shmancy health clubs. You know, the ones where it's real expensive to join but it's worth it, 'cause you get to see a lot o' people that you don't know naked! ... Like, some people got those bulgy-bulgy thighs, the ones that get chafed just 'cause they're always scrapin' against each other. ... And there's other people there that got these funny belly buttons. Like, some go in and some go out or it's like a hole or it curls around or it's like a little knob on it, like a door. ... Some of them got a little piece of their sweater still in it! ... Some of 'em look like a little star or a shell or a clam. Or some, you don't what they are! ... But, personally, I, Roseanne Roseannadanna, don't like to walk around with no clothes in front of other people! Not that I don't got a great body. ... But why should I waste it on a bunch of fat ladies in a health club?

There was something on TalkingPointsMemo (or ?) that said the people involved were telling people the mayor was to blame.

Er uh, like everyone else has already said.
