“This is what tolerance looks like at UC Berkeley”

Right, and this is a lie. If Republicans or conservatives don't do anything mockable in any given week (unlikely, I realize, but it has happened), then Jon Stewart is about as funny as cancer.

Jeez, I can't think of a week when a Republican or Conservative hasn't done something funny or stupid. To a comic, it's the party that keeps on giving.

1/4? 100%? Cite?

Here. I may have exaggerated the almost 100% stuff, although I think it's probably true if you count only specific sources that those people turn to (i.e. they're not the types to tune into news shows, but they do tune into The Daily Show).

AMY MITCHELL: We found in research we conducted this past fall that 12 percent of web-using adults said that they turned to "The Daily Show" for news about politics and government in the past week.

GONYEA: That's a high score for an entertainment show. If you narrow the sample to men age 18 to 29, that percentage almost doubles. The numbers also show how liberal "The Daily Show" audience is.

MITCHELL: More than 70 percent have political views that align with the liberal side of the spectrum. Only 7 percent have views that align with the conservative.

That's not a maybe.

Is probably true like alternative facts?

My kids, under 30, don't know who John Stewart is. How can that be?

Here is ~15 minutes of Jon Stewart claiming he's just a comedian. He does this so often, it's referred to his "clown nose on, clown nose off" schtick.

Wow, does Stewart come off as a total sanctimonious prick in that segment. I've seen it before, but I had forgotten about it. Goddamn what an ass. And did you notice that in the last 40 seconds, he contradicts the point he was making for the last 14 minutes, gets called out, and just sits there with a goofy look on his face like "oh, I guess I really don't have a coherent thought in my head, do I?"

I thought he was awesome. He wasn't that funny in this clip but he had no intention of being funny. I understand why you don't like him, but oh well.

I thought he was just dripping with self-importance in that clip.

But I mainly posted it as an example of his "I'm just a comedian" schtick. Although, as sunmaster noted, it backfired towards the end when the woman from the crowd asked her question.

Local PBS radio, KUOW, discussion just now about Milo's visit to the UW. Indignant Republican blames Progressives and liberals for putting all Republicans in the alt-right category.

Note, Republicans invited Milo to all these campus events.

:id:

Hellooo, the alt-right just took over your Party and the Republican legislators are going right along with it. Who are these moderate Republicans and why aren't they standing up to this ******

On another note, a reporter attended the event, it was "content free" and mostly consisted of the same attacks on women as Milo promoted with Gamergate.

Scroll down this blog entry to see two slides Milo brought with him that typify the talk.

I think in a way this blatant hypocrisy all around is hilarious. I'm a big believer in free speech and think I'm a hypocrite when I want this a-hole to shut it, but I also find it like being tolerant of Islam. Why should I be tolerant of people professing ideas that aren't the least bit tolerant and wouldn't hesitate to take away my fee speech?

Not really in the boat on officer safety being #1 but I agree that they should only do what they are equipped to handle. That being said, I do feel that reviewing policy might be in order if it is found to be unable to deal with small level protests and vandalism/assaults.

Officer safety has to be #1 because if an officer goes down you've got an officer to extract and less resources to do it with, plus the base problem you already had.

I never indicated any special relationship between Milo and the police. I am more specifically speaking about the police in regards to their duty to the community. Milo isn't paying for the $100,000 in damages. The community will. And I think that the community has the right to expect a certain level of action from the police force. While civilly they are not required to do their jobs in certain respects, that doesn't mean the place that employs them can't have a voice about their inaction.

$100,000 damage vs. $100,000 and injured or slain officers.

Which is worse?

The flaw in your thinking seems to be that the police escalation will go swimmingly. Almost as if there's a direct correlation between police responsiveness and resulting damage. It's not that simple.

Conceded. I should not have said 'you'. It was more a general statement than something that should have been attributed to you. I apologize for that.

My apologies for the misread, as well.

No. If they are here illegally, they should not get citizenship. There must be consequences for breaking the law.

I'm open to the argument for providing them legal resident status (contingent on fixing a number of related issues), but I see no moral imperative of any kind to grant them citizenship.

How about you figure out the difference between illegal and unlawful and try again.

The language you're using is not a legal argument, it's a rhetorical trick to get people to think 'criminal' when they see certain skin colors.

The first thing I found was about liberals getting mad at him for making fun of the Obamacare rollout. There's a lot of analysis of his "just a comedian" shtick from around that time. But I guarantee you that he's hidden behind that same line when people have complained about misleading editing done to make fun of people (usually Republicans and conservatives). And the amount and level of misleading editing his show does is mind-boggling.

You "guarantee"? That's what you expect me to reach a conclusion from? You have nothing, and your guarantee is worth nothing.

No, I'm referring specifically to Jon Stewart's Daily Show.

Oh, I know. I was trying to make a point, but you avoided it, as you are wont to do.

I saw that before, and he made no such claim.

Blind bias is a beautiful thing to see unfold. Thanks for that.
