I agree that modern Catholics and Christians generally are decidedly more moral than they were. This, in spite of explicit instruction in scripture, to do all manner of horrendous deeds.
The drooling over the prospect of the hateful, writhing in Hell for eternity, persists for many I suspect. There may be some who profess to "love the sinner - hate the sin", but I wonder at the sincerity of this sentiment in many Christians.
There are Christians, and then there are Christians. That is, people who identify as "Christian" can run the gamut from being quite liberal (here in Canada the United Church performs same-sex marriages and they don't have a problem with gay or lesbian clergy) to very conservative (being gay is immoral and should be illegal; only people of our sect will get into heaven, and perhaps not even all of them!)I wonder at the sincerity of any statement by any xtians.
I wonder if there have been studies done on the arrest and conviction rates of people identifying with various belief systems, to see if those who have a strong commitment to their faith are different from those who do not, as well as those who do not believe in any gods.
