Eric the Red had already sailed to Greenland by the time our Puma Punku dudes were making temples. No assistance from gods required. Later, Leif Erickson made it even farther, then was chosen to convert the Greenlanders to Christianity. No heavenly agents involved, just a politically-savvy king solidifying his base.

There are many things that people do TODAY, right in front of our eyes, that the average person can't figure out how it was done. Why is it so hard for some people to believe that ancient engineers (who have the same brains that today's engineers have) found solutions that aren't obvious to the average person today?

Engineers are wicked clever. If you've ever looked at software code written by a mechanical or structural engineer...wow. Highly impractical, but ingenious as all get-out.

This isn't all from training. It takes a special kind of brain to do what they do. And that kind of brain has been around for thousands of years.

I live in the Southern Hemisphere. Damn you all Northern Hemisphere people and your imperialistic prejudices regarding orientation. South should be on top.

The gods are at the SOUTH POLE. Penguins are gods.

And if they do return, what will they have to offer? Is the mere novelty of the confirmation of their existence going to improve the human condition somehow?

It seems that all they've had to offer in the past is mad rock scratching and stacking skillz... that, and an amazing ability to tidy up after themselves.

What else? Stomping flat our crops, probing our butts, killing our cattle, zippy lights in the sky shows... sorry, but none of this seems particularly useful or constructive. Truth be told... 'they' seem pretty much useless.

Is there anything, beyond the entertainment value of the spectacle of their return, that we should be looking forward to when 'they' return?

Dude, you saw a couple of lights in the sky, once. No rational person will ever be convinced of your fantasy by seeing that first hand. Hell, most of us have already seen something along those lines, we just don't obsess about it because seeing lights in the sky really isn't unusual or unexpected.

All right, let me see if I get KoA's line of reasoning straight:

1. There are things in this world that we don't understand. Or, more accurately, that KoA doesn't understand.
2. In ancient times, people dealt with things they didn't understand by attributing them to gods.

Conclusion: Things we don't understand are attributable to heavenly beings that we could call 'gods'.

We don't know what they are, what they look like, what they want, what they do, why they do it, and we have absolutely no evidence that they exist. But they do.

Do I have it right?
