The Trump/Putin summit predictions thread

So Trump "misspoke" one word... the word "would".

Well then, let's have a close look at the transcript of Trump's response to that journalist's question:

QUESTION: Thank you.

A question for each president; President Trump, you first.

Just now, President Putin denied having anything to do with the election interference in 2016. Every U.S. intelligence agency has concluded that Russia did.

What — who — my first question for you, sir, is who do you believe?

My second question is would you now, with the whole world watching, tell President Putin, would you denounce what happened in 2016 and would you warn him to never do it again?

TRUMP: So let me just say that we have two thoughts. You have groups that are wondering why the FBI never took the server — haven’t they taken the server. Why was the FBI told to leave the office of the Democratic National Committee?

I’ve been wondering that, I’ve been asking that for months and months and I’ve been tweeting it out and calling it out on social media. Where is the server? I want to know where is the server and what is the server saying?

With that being said, all I can do is ask the question. My people came to me, Dan Coates came to me and some others, they said they think it’s Russia. I have President Putin; he just said it’s not Russia.

I will say this: I don’t see any reason why it would be. But I really do want to see the server.

But I have — I have confidence in both parties. I — I really believe that this will probably go on for a while, but I don’t think it can go on without finding out what happened to the server. What happened to the servers of the Pakistani gentleman that worked on the DNC? Where are those servers? They’re missing; where are they? What happened to Hillary Clinton’s e-mails? 33,000 e-mails gone — just gone. I think in Russia they wouldn’t be gone so easily. I think it’s a disgrace that we can’t get Hillary Clinton’s 33,000 e-mails.

TRUMP: So I have great confidence in my intelligence people, but I will tell you that President Putin was extremely strong and powerful in his denial today.

And what he did is an incredible offer. He offered to have the people working on the case come and work with their investigators with respect to the 12 people. I think that’s an incredible offer. OK?

Thank you.

We would have to completely ignore the entire context of his answer in order for his "misspoke" excuse to have any leg to stand on.

Something else to take note of was Trump's tone of voice when he was answering the journalist's question.

Here's the original press conference video in question:

(fast forward to the 38:42 mark)

Notice how Trump added verbal emphasis on the word "would" that he is now claiming he misspoke ?

Since when does a person purposefully and consciously add emphasis in their vocal tone to a word they're misspeaking ?

And one more question just for poops and giggles:

Who's the stable genius among Trump's entourage that thought up the I-Misspoke-One-Word™ excuse... actually believing it would pass muster with anyone who possesses more than two brains cells to rub together ?

Still curious how the pressure to "clarify" worked ... I'm wondering if Pompeo, Bolton, Kelly or some combination threatened to resign if he did not read that correction?
Not needed. Trump was well aware of the disaster he made by the time he boarded AF1.

... Trump does not like to backtrack. I imagine he's seething with resentment over having him read today's script. Who does he blame? Because it can't be himself.
Easy, he blames the deep state investigation which is unfair and out to get him, and all the stoopid people that don't recognize there was no kolushun.

His handlers probably know how to con the con, telling him he's right but he has to manage the reaction.

He'll simmer away for a day or two and then reverse the reversal, doubtless explaining the Russians are 'fine people'.

Well once again, Trump has proved quite well that I cannot predict what Trump will do.

In this case, Trump bent over backwards to kiss the butt of Putin and call it ice cream.

Then, within one day, Trump sort of rescinded his previous Putin butt kissing.

I sure would have never predicted such a thing happening.

I don't think he rescinded quite as much as you think. It was more like a grudging half-assed gaslighting single word correction that didn't really change the gist of the press conference.

Too bad the Trump-Putin summit didn't happen in Stockholm. The eponymous syndrome could be bandied about and provide fodder for both consideration and mirth.

It still leaves Trump saying the U.S. behaved "foolishly" with regard to Russia.

It's probably too much to ask that Fox continue to hold his feet to the fire, but the totality of his statements (including his embellishment today that the hacking "could have been other people, there are a lot of people") is still plenty damning.

This whole sordid episode nicely calls attention to Trump's body of work.

What I find odd is that he long ago, albeit elliptically, did at least say Russia "probably" meddled.

I'm sure it was Obama's fault. EVERYTHING is Obama's fault (if it's not the Dems or Lyin' Hillary).

Sounds like the name of a sleep aid... Having a restless night? Try Nokulusion. Nokulusion will soothe those unwanted, nagging thoughts that are keeping you awake, allowing you to get a restful nights sleep.

(Warning, Nokulusion may be habit forming, do not not take Nokulusion if you are pregnant, or may become pregnant. Nokulusion may cause you to blurt out incomprehensible statements at random moments without control. Nokulusion may cause an irreversible skin condition with symptoms that include, but are not limited to, a warm, orange glow. Always check with your doctor, or handlers, before trying Nokulusion.)

Oddly enough, that's close to what he wrote on his renege speech paper as a reminder just to get that out there.
"THERE WAS NO COLUSION" [sic]

At first I thought that photograph was a hoax. It's real, right?!

I recognised his face when he gave the apology.

It's the exact one when a small child has to make an apology they really don't want to. Having had four kids through kindergarten & school, I'm pretty familiar with it.

What a twat. Classic example of daddy's little spoiled brat.

Trump's secret phone call to you-know-who this morning:

POTUS Sorry, Hun, I didn't really betray you. When I said the 'w' word my fingers were crossed behind my back in my mind.

POR You bitch. I thought our love was strong and that you'd stand by me-

POTUS You and me forever, Hun, but Mel was getting wind of it and Pompey got me in the corridor. He slung me up against the wall by my lapels and said, 'You take it back, you crummy @sshole! Or I'll have your guts for garters...'

POR You have to choose between him or me. You can't tell the world you love me one day, and then renege the next. Don't make me have to -

POTUS No, Vladdy, no! Not that! I'll be your bitch and do whatever you want me to. When you call my name I'll come running. Ain't no mountain high enough -

POR Ain't no river wide enough -

BOTH To keep me away from you.

GRAND FINALE CRESCENDO: AAAAAIN'T NOOOO MOUUUUUNTAAAAIN HIIIIGH ENOUUUUUUGH...

The Russians continue to crow about the Helsinki summit.

From Moscow Times:

— Viktor Bondarev, head of the Federation Council’s defense and security committee
“The attempt of the Americans to build a unipolar world was unsuccessful. Everyone understands this. The whole world knows that Russia can’t be ignored. The very fact of this meeting and dialogue is convincing proof of this. Glory and praise to President Vladimir Putin for raising the standing of Russia in the international arena to such an extent that, despite American and EU attempts to confront and pressure us with sanctions, they are still forced to look for ways to find common ground with us.”
— Sergei Lavrov, Foreign Minister
Lavrov described the talks as “amazing” and “better than super.”

and:

— Konstantin Kosachev, head of the Federation Council’s foreign affairs committee

“That which happened was the best possible [scenario] in the current circumstances … Let’s imagine what could have been theoretically better: Trump says that [the U.S.] was mistaken in its evaluation of the situation in Crimea and southeastern Ukraine and that sanctions will be canceled tomorrow … It’s obvious that these kinds of concessions and decisions couldn’t be expected.

If Fox finds that there's no way they can put even a neutral spin on this disaster then it's a whole new ballgame.

They don't make their money out of supporting Trump.

Well they've found a way now - apparently President Trump said would when he meant wouldn't (even though that makes no sense in the wider context of the press conference).

It's all OK now, President Trump is back to being a great man, a great politician and someone willing to put peace above politics and all it took was 24 hours

My Nickname For Trump from now on is Benedict Donald.
Actually he makes Benedict Arnold look like an amateur: Arnold just wanted to sell the fortress at West Point to the British; Benedict Donald wants to sell his whole country.

I know Benedict Arnold was a traitor to the US cause in the Revolutionary War but OTOH he was a very capable general and exhibited a great deal of personal courage in battle. Comparing him to President Trump, someone who got himself exempted from service because of alleged bone-spurs is unfair IMO.
