The Trump/Putin summit predictions thread

The Russian press is cockahoop:

The pro-Kremlin newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda consulted a body language expert in an effort to portray President Putin as the stronger leader.

"When he shakes hands, Donald Trump normally extends an open palm to trick his opponent into believing he is open for contact. Then he drags his opponent's hand towards him to put them off balance.

"But in Helsinki he shook Putin's hand quite normally, without any cunning moves. It reflects the results of the meeting and what has happened over the last year: Trump has failed to dominate Putin."

and

The tabloid Moskovsky Komsomolets claimed that "a quiet, modest Trump had paled in comparison with Vladimir Putin. It's clear that Putin outmanoeuvred the US president. That is cause for pride, but also for alarm. Because outmanoeuvring Trump does not mean he outmanoeuvred the US political class. I fear it won't be long before Washington responds".

Finnish paper, ILTALEHTI (='Evening Paper') claims there is only one picture of Melania smiling in official photos, that, plus when she was thrown the football by her 24-years older husband, whilst in the audience.

One report suggested Melania and Trump looked like they had just quarrelled before alighting the plane arriving at Helsinki.

Another claims Putin controlled the whole thing. Russian journalists were allowed into the Press conference first, and Putin got to make both the opening and closing statements.

Welp... it's official.

I'm gobsmacked.

A president (I use that term lightly) of the United States of America just chose to stab his own country in the back while down on his knees servicing the manhood of a Russian president.

It's one thing to be diplomatic and attempt to offer an olive branch to an adversary. But it's something completely different to do so at the expense of one's own country, it's intelligence agencies, it's legal processes and investigations, freedom of the press, it's allied global partners, and to add insult to injury... the men and women who have serviced their country for years in the name of democracy, national security, and liberty to all.

I. Am. Fricken. Gobsmacked.

My Nickname For Trump from now on is Benedict Donald.
Actually he makes Benedict Arnold look like an amateur: Arnold just wanted to sell the fortress at West Point to the British; Benedict Donald wants to sell his whole country.

crecent's predictions for the presser:

1) Starts at least 15 minutes late.
2) Fury
3) Only take questions from most friendly sources, answers bear no relation to questions asked anyway.
4) FAKE NEWS! mantra
5) Fury and Gibberish
6)Declare victory and leave.

Speaking of gibberish (albeit not from Trump himself):

Senator Mike Rounds (R-SD):
I think what actually happened, I think Mr. Putin just got out-Trumped by Trump. If Mr. Putin thinks he can tell a whopper, he’s not gonna be outdone by this president. And so if Mr. Putin is going to look at him and try to straight-faced tell him that they didn’t meddle, our president can look right back at him and tell just as big a whopper back to Putin as Putin told him.

John Bolton says that he finds it "hard to believe" Putin didn't know about top Russian intelligence officials' efforts to interfere in the 2016 election.
It's impossible to believe. Putin kills people who merely speak against him. What might he do to underlings who act against foreign governments without his approval?

Now while we can all agree that Trump largely stepped on himself yesterday, lets not kid ourselves and conclude that our intelligence services have always covered themselves in glory.

I assume the laughing dog was for the part that trump stepped on himself.

Interesting.

He'll double down...

Trump's gaslighting is worthy of Orwell.

"I mispoke. I said I didn't know why it would be Russia. I meant I didn't know why it wouldn't be Russia."

Someone told him to read the bull **** statement and don't dare go off script.

Ya forgot "nokulusion".

Sounds like the name of a sleep aid... Having a restless night? Try Nokulusion. Nokulusion will soothe those unwanted, nagging thoughts that are keeping you awake, allowing you to get a restful nights sleep.

(Warning, Nokulusion may be habit forming, do not not take Nokulusion if you are pregnant, or may become pregnant. Nokulusion may cause you to blurt out incomprehensible statements at random moments without control. Nokulusion may cause an irreversible skin condition with symptoms that include, but are not limited to, a warm, orange glow. Always check with your doctor, or handlers, before trying Nokulusion.)

Trump's performance at the #TreasonSummit shouldn't shock us, he has been saying the same thing for years....well, until today anyway

ETA:
The image isn't showing up, I'm trying to figure out why, it is a clip of the debates on October 19th, 2016 when Clinton says: "Well, that's because he'd[Putin] rather have a puppet as president of the United States
It goes on when Trump says "you don't know that [Russians hacked]" and Clinton says that isn't her opinion, but the opinion of the intelligence. Trump says directly about our intelligence agencies: "And our country has no idea"

ETA2: Found the script:
October 19th, 2016
CLINTON: Well, that's because he'd rather have a puppet as president of the United States.
TRUMP: No puppet. No puppet.
CLINTON: And it's pretty clear...
TRUMP: You're the puppet!
CLINTON: It's pretty clear you won't admit...
TRUMP: No, you're the puppet.
CLINTON: ... that the Russians have engaged in cyberattacks against the United States of America, that you encouraged espionage against our people, that you are willing to spout the Putin line, sign up for his wish list, break up NATO, do whatever he wants to do, and that you continue to get help from him, because he has a very clear favorite in this race.
So I think that this is such an unprecedented situation. We've never had a foreign government trying to interfere in our election. We have 17 -- 17 intelligence agencies, civilian and military, who have all concluded that these espionage attacks, these cyberattacks, come from the highest levels of the Kremlin and they are designed to influence our election. I find that deeply disturbing.
WALLACE: Secretary Clinton...
CLINTON: And I think it's time you take a stand...
TRUMP: She has no idea whether it's Russia, China, or anybody else.
CLINTON: I am not quoting myself.
TRUMP: She has no idea.
CLINTON: I am quoting 17...
TRUMP: Hillary, you have no idea.
CLINTON: ... 17 intelligence -- do you doubt 17 military and civilian...
TRUMP: And our country has no idea.
CLINTON: ... agencies.
TRUMP: Yeah, I doubt it. I doubt it.
CLINTON: Well, he'd rather believe Vladimir Putin than the military and civilian intelligence professionals who are sworn to protect us. I find that just absolutely...
(CROSSTALK)
TRUMP: She doesn't like Putin because Putin has outsmarted her at every step of the way.
WALLACE: Mr. Trump...
TRUMP: Excuse me. Putin has outsmarted her in Syria.
WALLACE: Mr. Trump...
(CROSSTALK)
TRUMP: He's outsmarted her every step of the way.

He was forced to retract his statement, as advised by leading Republicans.

I have never seen Trump look so angry: arms crossed, massive scowl, pushing his water away and fiddling around with his papers. The live stream I was watching messed up the speed and the words, so didn't catch it all.

Would love to know what h had written in heavy black ink on that last page.

In any case, changing the words, doesn't change the fact of his open disloyalty.

Cannot take that back.

Trump on meeting with Putin: "I entered the meeting with the firm conviction that diplomacy and engagement is better than hostility and conflict."

Yeah he was diplomatic and engaging in the same way a zebra with a broken leg is diplomatic and engaging toward a lion.
